ROCK ANDALUZ
Rock Andaluz is a musical genre from Andalusia, characterized by the combination of Flamenco with Rock music and other elements such as Jazz and Blues. Al-Andalus culture became also a big influence in their music, alongside lyrics, themes and artworks. Rock Andaluz emerged in the early 60's with groups based in Sevilla, Jerez, Córdoba, Málaga and Cádiz.
The 60's was an era of innovation and experimentation. The pioneers were a Sevilla group, Smash. Some of the most popular groups were Medina Azahara, Triana and Alameda. One of the most influential bands was Iman, Califato Independiente also known as Imán, this group incorporated some of the best instrumentalists from Sevilla and Jerez. Imán combined Flamenco with Progressive Rock, Arabic melodies, Fusion Jazz and Latin American rhythms.
