Re: Robin Trower

I listened to that LP few days ago. Slightly Hendrix feel on it, I do prefer Bridge of Sighs though. :grinthumb

Bugger.. Well.. It did come out first I think.. I like pretty much every song on the LP.. BOS is a great album.. Probably his masterpiece..

Re: Robin Trower

ROBIN TROWER, if you want to get in to him basically it's all his albums that came out on the Chrysalis lable between 1973-83 that is his BEST material which are the following albums-

TWICE REMOVED FROM YESTERDAY
BRIDGE OF SIGHS
FOR EARTH BELOW
ROBIN TROWER LIVE
LONG MISTY DAYS
IN CITY DREAMS
CARAVAN TO MIDNIGHT
VICTIMS OF THE FURY
B.L.T. (with Jack Bruce)
TRUCE (with Jack Bruce)
BACK IT UP

ROBIN released several albums during the 1980s & 90s on different lables which were ok but he went more 'bluesy' from the mid-1990s onwards.

On a personal note i met the man back-stage after he played a gig as part of 'The Night of the Guitars' in north London for a quick chat back in 1991 :)

Re: Robin Trower

I use to listen to his earlier albums a lot years ago but not that much now days, he went to 'bluesy' for my liking in the last 15 years but his earlier albums are CLASSICS :)

I've managed to collect some rare stuff of his down the years which is several live recordings from the mid-1970s which are worth keeping.

I read years ago back in the 1980s that in the 1970s Robin use to put a small framed picture of JIMI HENDRIX on top of his amps to give himself 'inspiration' while digging in to his strat on stage :)

Re: Robin Trower

Jimmy was having foot surgery in 1987. The anesthesiologist gave him too much gas, and he had a kind of stroke. He lived out the rest of his life convalescing in hospital. He died in 2002.

Long misty days
Tore me in a million ways
Once in a while will come my way

Oh how the moon
Shining in a lonely room
Weeping willow cry for me

Re: Robin Trower

MP: Message

Gonna do a bump here. I think Trower deserves to have a bit of respect and a better looking thread. As many Robin fans will see, the new OP (initial post) is a bit more informative and eye catching.

Also, many cluttery old posts have been removed and the thread kept to our current/active members.

Also I TRIED to get back any videos that were not working. Had a hard time as some were just flat out removed and usually I can still get the title.

Anyway..look for a post of yours with an indication in red and see if you can find your song again. Post it again and bump away.

ROCK ON!!

Re: Robin Trower

The 'unfortunate problem' for Robin in the past was that in the 1970s he was dubbed a HENDRIX copyist by the british rock press which kinda stuck with him for a long time in to the 1980s & 90s.

A guy told me a story back in 1991 that when he was in SOUTHEND-ON-SEA in England (Robin's home town) sometime back in the 1980s he telephoned for a mini cab (taxis) one evening and was 'blown away' when the cab arrived to find Robin driving it!!

Now being a Trower fan myself i know that Robin went through a 'lean period' during the 1980s but that was an amazing story!!. Anyway like i said some guy told me that story straight from his own mouth :omg:

Re: Robin Trower

Interesting EZ.. At least the guy reconized who he was.. :heheh:

I always felt bad that Robin had to be in the shadow of Hendrix.. Even though they both played alot of Rock Blues, I heard a difference when Trower played compared to Hendrix..
Poor Frank Marino of Mohagany Rush.. Dosn't even get mentioned in the same class as Hendrix OR Trower..

I know it's a technically.. But Wasn't Hendrix's guitar of Choice a Tele and of course I think Trower is a straight up Strat player??

Re: Robin Trower

JIMI usually played strats (rosewood necks 66,67,68 period & mapel necks 69-70 period) although for straight blues like on his own 12-bar blues composition RED HOUSE he usually switched to a Gibson Flying V or Flying Arrow as they were then known. JIMI also had a white Gibson SG that he sometimes played on stage as well but not often.

The thing with ROBIN was that he never played any HENDRIX numbers on stage live although he did play the B.B.KING number ROCK ME BABY that JIMI use to play but ROBIN'S version was more FUNKY. FRANK MARINO and S.R.V. use to perform HENDRIX numbers live on stage in concert.

Yeah the guy who told me the 'taxis story' WAS a rock fan obviously thats why he was blown away when ROBIN TROWER pulled up driving the taxis wouldn't you be?? :)
