Re: Private Message Suggestion
What problems could it possibly cause?
If it causes any problems, that is one too many, IMO. Jen has said that she has experienced problems so there you go.
Ya.. LL.. what you hiding from??
Who cares who you PM other than a jealous BF...
Trouble-maker!!
And you've hit the nail on the head, but from a different POV. Who cares and therefore why display it?
There are two possible ways.
1. Instead of using "Reply" function or "Send private message" via user profile try "Send New Message." You can find it in User CP on the left side. Downside - who can be bothered to write a user name?
2. Tick box "Use Invisible Mode," which can be found in "Edit Option" section (again User CP). Users won't be able to see if you're online or not.
But maybe Magic or LG will show up and say something more about it.
Thanks, Nolo, but I don't want to be invisible. And if you are replying and want to keep a convo going, this is not going to work. And then there are people like our TUNEZ
who use special characters in his screen names and you'd have to c/p his name to send him a message in the way you suggested. (Sorry, Tunez, I'm not trying to throw you under the proverbial bus, if there is one, which there isn't (
) -- I was going to use special characters in my screen name, too, just as I have on other forums!
)
I think it causes more harm than good really. I shouldn't have to answer as to who I'm talking to and what about, and have other members be annoyed with me for conversating with someone. I will not go into further detail on that matter though. It has caused many problems. I talk to a lot of people on here and get tired of the 20 questions and jealousy.
I think this is one of the best suggestions I've seen here since joining. But, like I said, all up to the admins.
There you have it. I have not been put into that position, Jen, but I can definitely see it happening, and it would not make me happy to have someone question me. I have enough private conversations that it has made me uncomfy. I'm happy to say that I have made friends here, people with whom I PM on a regular basis just to "chat". What we talk about is private, that we are talking should be too. (well, really, it
is just a suggestion so there is no
should
Frankly, I've never been a member of a forum that has "who's online" that shows what I am doing. I'm not a overly-seasoned forum-person,
, so perhaps I speak from a narrow viewpoint. But I can see who is online on the home page. And YES, it feels as if I'm spying!!!

In the end, it doesn't hurt anyone who doesn't care one way or another, and it is good for those for whom it
does matter. Everyone is happy!!
