Re: Queensryche

O2 Apollo, Manchester, July 16th.

Set List:

1.Get Started
2.Damaged
3.I Don't Believe In Love
4.NM 156
5.Screaming In Digital
6.Jet City Woman
7.Empire
8.Eyes Of A Stranger

Just a shame they were the support act so were only on a short time.

Pearltastic stuff

That is a short set, but at least they did play most of their best songs Tray.

When I see the set list from Priest, you can see why Queensryche had a short set, still a great metal concert from the way you are describing the evening.:hb:

^^ Yeah given the time frame I think they did a cracking job and set the crowd up really well for the main event. As you say it was a great night of music and I salute all three bands, definitely one to remember.

23 years after buying my first CD by Queensryche (Operation: Mindcrime - still by far my favourite album of theirs) I finally got to see them!! I was so excited when Geoff Tate walked on stage, I was like a kid just about to rip the wrapping off a huge pile of pressies on Xmas day! I didn't know what to expect of the set list, I just hoped they'd play as little as possible off their latest offering and as much as possible off Mindcrime!
I was not disappointed, just one new song, Get Started - one which I quite like actually - and the rest oldies, from when Queensryche were at their blistering best.
The band were in fine form, excellent musicianship, and Geoff's vocals were (mostly) brilliant (he seemed to struggle a little on the odd notes - I noticed it the most in Eyes of a Stranger - but disguised it well :D). I loved every minute of it, and was in my element when they played three of my favourites - Jet City Woman, Empire and Eyes of a Stranger. Just a shame they were the support act so were only on a short time.

Glad to hear you two enjoyed the show so much. That's about a perfect set list as an opening act! They have closed the show with Eyes of a Stranger almost every time I have seen them... that one was pretty much a "given". :grinthumb

Re: Queensryche

Just realised I said '23 years after buying my first CD' I first bought the album on tape as I was on holiday at the time and wanted to be able to listen to it on my Walkman. Don't know why I said CD :bonk:

Yeah I was pretty chuffed with the songs they chose to do, and I suspected (and hoped!) they'd end with Eyes of a Stranger - it is perfect for a final song so can see why they choose it a lot!

Re: Queensryche

My boys let me down with the new one but nothing will ever take away the glory of Mindcrime... still the finest concept record ever laid down and a touchstone to the greatness of 80's prog metal.

Amen. I so miss the Warning, Rage, Mindcrime, Empire days,....sigh. I saw them during the Operation Mindcrime II tour. Wow. Just freaking wow. During Operation Mindcrime I set, everyone was singing. Amazing. I then saw them at Rock the Bayou 2008 in Houston. Geoff hit all the notes. In the sweltering heat. Sadly, I am so not into Dedicated To Chaos....sigh..

Picked up Operation Mind Crime.
Pretty cool album, I liked it from front to back.

That is a great record Riff, nice to see you giving it a listen. I've found it Grows on you over time as well.

You should pick up Empire next, if you like Mindcrime you will enjoy that one too.

Re: Queensryche

Yeah heard nothing but good things about Empire.
Which are the albums to avoid, I know the 2011 record is one, that sucked majorly.

Re: Queensryche

I think every album up to American Soldier is okay.

But Early Queensryche is the best, when their lead guitarist Chris DeGarmo left they were never the same.

I do like Mindcrime Part II, some fans think it's mediocre sort of fits with your latest thread about "follow ups', although in this case it was over 10+ years between them. I just like having the story finished.:D

TUNEZ will give you more details about his favorites, he's about biggest Queensryche fanatic I've ever met....and that's a compliment in case you wondered.:grinthumb

As LG said, once DeGarmo left the band, they were never the same. Personally, I think they had already started sliding from their glory days before he even left, but .... well anyway. To answer your question with my own personal preferences, since you already have Operation Mindcrime, the next couple of albums to get should be as follows:

1) Empire
514FB8ccMBL._SY300_.jpg

2) Rage For Order
2c6c793509a015f1bc7b7110.L._SX300_.jpg

3) Queensryche (Selt Titled EP)
fc08810ae7a02aaad321a110.L._SY300_.jpg

4) The Warning
61pQ0FRRbAL._SY300_.jpg

Some may argue the order, but that's what I would personally go with. Rage For Order wasn't received well by critics and fans alike. Personally, I always liked it. My favorite tune on that album being the first track, Walk in the Shadows. Definitely Empire should be your next purchase! I doubt many would argue differently.

Anyway, after these first 5 releases (the 4 I mentioned along with the one you already have), then I was simply progress forwards chronologically as their releases came out if you are still interested. Maybe pick up Operation Mindcrime II sooner, but otherwise, yeah, I'd just go in order after the first 5 + OM2
