OK. I've listened to the clips you posted of some of Mariah's better releases. Two things struck me.
1. It would seem that I have almost completely avoided being exposed to her music. I guess her music is played on hit radio stations which I've not listened to for more than twenty years since CHUM and CFTR changed formats. "Hero" sounds somewhat familiar but that's it.
2. Her material sounds pretty much like the rap influenced pop that the other current pop divas like Britney Spears favour. That style of music just leaves me cold.
All I can say is that I flat out disagree. While overall I'm not impressed with Celine's material, she has put out releases that I find very pleasant e.g. "My Heart Will Go On" and "A New Day Has Come". And her voice has way more clarity and far greater dynamic range than Mariah's.

I respect your opinion and my post was in no way to argue or anything, I just disagree that Mariah is worse than Celine, imo. I don't know what it is about Celine but I think (for me, anyways) it's her whole package that makes me not like her. Her songs are too sappy for me and I don't really like her voice. She can hit it really high, of course, but something about her voice is a bit of a turn off :/

I was making a playful jab at her son.....I don't disregard Celine's music because of her looks, he just looks quite feminine and his hair was longer than hers at one point so he looked more feminine just because of the longer hair....I wasn't saying Celine looked like a boy.....I don't know what they both look like now because I never bothered to check but he used to have hair that looked a little longer than hers.

I would automatically name most any contestant who got famous strictly from American Idol. People who put in NO work whatsoever other than showing up on a tv show and lasting for a few episodes. Like them or not, at least people like Celine Dion and Mariah Carey paid their dues and climbed the ladder.
