Alright I tried out some songs from the pre-Meddle era. I listened to Bike (second time), Arnold Layne, See Emily Play, and Careful With That Axe, Eugene (Ummagumma and Zabriskie Point versions.)

The band sounded weird back then. I liked Bike and Careful best. When it comes to psychedelic music, I'm very close minded.

For me Pink Floyd hit their stride from Meddle onward, when they grew into the band that I loved. The early stuff is okay, but I rarely listen to those albums I prefer the prog era albums over the psychedelic ones.

I've actually tended to become a bit biased towards to earlier psychedelic stuff mostly because I've heard all the post "Meddle" stuff so much. While it is true that Floyd constructed perfect progression from theit 60's approach through to "The Wall",it's actually an apples and oranges thing.(Even literally as they did a tune called "Apples And Oranges" in the 60's)The "Gates of Dawn" more Syd Barrett inspired recordings hold a certain level of creativity that romance me with a certain inexplicable mysterious charm..................

@Hurdy Gurdy Man Quite a few PF fans express the same view as you HGH, me it's the total opposite I find early PF kind of boring by comparison.

I enjoy all Floyd eras... except maybe the extremely Waters-dominated Final Cut, but even on there I like a handful of songs.

Right now I'm totally immersing myself in their 1968 to 1970/71 period. The CDs currently in my car wallet are A Saucerful Of Secrets, More, Relics, Zabriskie Point and Ummagumma. :D

Really,no matter what Floyd era one might prefer, everyone must admire the evolution of the band. They were quite willing to be experimental and inventive. Most of the times this worked, maybe in a few cases it didn't,but they certainly would have stopped at nothing in their pursuit of creating their own special niche in the annals of rock.................

So I have The Wall on DVD. Interesting film, my mom absolutely hated it.
So can anyone recommend a free, high quality DVD ripping program? I need that and the Italian single mix of Young Lust (for the full opening and clean outro) to complete the soundtrack.

Okay I have often wondered about this: Don't Cirrus Minor and A Saucerful Of Secrets (title track from album of same name) have the exact same chord sequence towards the end there?

HI Musikwala!
Concerning your post about chord pattern similarities on "Cirrus Minor" and "Saucerful of Secrets",I defintely noticed this at least on "Minor",but I think the idea might have been to return to the original musical premise but in more intense fashion, which would of course add the tune's appeal in terms of passion.I love works that have returns such as this."Saucerful" sounds to me like an aural acid trip.It starts off rather slowly and builds and builds in intensity, just as LSD 25 does to the mind. Then it just sort of tapers off, another acid attribute.Floyd record some tracks in those days that may make a perfectly sober person feel as though they've taken some form of psycho-mimetic substance...............
