Rod Stewart is sick and will not perform with his former Faces bandmates at this weekend’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, nor attend the festivities at all.

Rumors that spread throughout the day were confirmed by Billboard this afternoon, with former Faces and current Rolling Stone guitarist Ron Wood telling the magazine, “We were completely gutted by the news… [His doctors] aren’t even letting him fly.” Stewart also missed his 1994 solo induction into the Hall of Fame, but that was due to an earthquake striking near his California home.

Former Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall, who’s performed with recently reformed, Stewart-less versions of the Faces, will be on hand to perform with Wood, drummer Kenney Jones and keyboardist Ian McLagan at the event. Presumably the group will not play ‘Holding Back the Years,’ but instead focus on the same three-song career-spanning retrospective they had planned to be working on with Rod today.

So let’s run down a quick score: no Axl and most likely no Izzy = no original Guns N’ Roses reunion. No Stewart means no full Faces performance. Rush and Kiss still not even inducted. Hopefully the remaining attending classic rockers can band together and put on a show worthy of all this conversation and drama.

Well, it wouldn't be a full Faces performance without Ronnie Lane anyway. Once again it's left to Kenny and Mac to carry the torch for Ronnie and Steve. At least Woodie will be there.
