NEW BON JOVI ALBUM IN MIXING STAGE:
With the Richie Sambora album unfortunately leaking after erroneously being featured in full on Soundcloud this past week, I will have some first impression thoughts on it next week. Initially I'm disappointed that the rockers are mainly bathed in effects and have an experimental approach, but there is no doubt the guitar work is outstanding and the ballads (too many) featured are all quality.

But to the guitarist's main gig - Bon Jovi - the brand new album from the band is almost done. It has been fully recorded and produced by John Shanks and is now in his hands for mixing. In an upcoming magazine interview (will plug when published), Shanks describes the new bon Jovi album as "back to pop-rock BJ, with loads of great songs and future classics...", adding that is "...the best record he has done with them so far." Let's hope so!

Back to pop rock Bon Jovi?? The last 4-5 albums have been pop rock.

I'm sure it's gonna be good and I'll buy it, but I don't get that sales strategy there.

I do hope there is more of a return to New Jersey or before, but I think those days are done. Jon has been in safe mode for years now and sticking to the same formula.

As of today June 29th/2012 I still don't own a single Bon Jovi record...:peek:

:oyea:

I do like a few of his songs and he is talented and a good all round guy but something just never "Grabbed" me about his music.

exactly and to be honest, I think their last few albums have pretty much stunk. A few songs are "ok", but absolutely nothing memorable from this band since It's My Life was a single back in like 2000. As for entire albums, I haven't really liked a full album of theirs since before Crossroads ('94). Prior to that, I loved everything they did. Since then, a lot of hit and miss, mostly misses.

Agreed. I would love to here anything that they did in the 80's again.

They were, honestly, once a really good salt of the earth rock n roll band. First Bon Jovi album is an AOR classic and 7800 Fahrenheit also kicks some ass. Slippery When Wet was overplayed (+ hasn't aged well) but New Jersey saw them at the peak of their peacock strutting powers.

Then....it all went to shit when they slowly devolved into some kinda mulchy Springsteen/ Earle/ Mellencamp light with all of the ambition of a small rabbit with confidence issues.

What amazes me about this scenario is that someone, say Richie Sambora, hasn't at some stage taken JBJ to one side and said "you know what, let's get back to basics".

Maybe he has and was told to shut the f*ck up.

A perfect example of a corporate American brand (band) machine that has absolutely zero heart or soul left in the corpse that once housed a group of hungry, ambitious talented young musicians.

Can ZZ Top please step forward and show everyone that longevity and dignity need not be distant cousins?
