Another one of my favorites of 2010

SLOUGH FEG ~ The Animal Spirits ( previously known as The Lord Weird Slough Fey )

slough-feg-the-animal-spirits.jpg

Heavy Metal

band members :
Mike Scalzi (guitar, vocals), Greg Haa (drums, 1990-93, 1994-?), Chris Haa (guitar, 1990-94), Justin Phelps (bass, 1990-96), John Cobbett (guitar, 1998-2005), Adrian Maestas (bass, 2003-present), Angelo Tringali (guitar, 2005-present), Harry Cantwell (drums, ?-present), Jon Torres (bass), Jim Mack (bass), Scott Beach (bass), Antoine Reuben-Diavola (drums), Omar Herd, Stu Kane, Dave Passmore, Andrew Sebba

track listing

1 Trick the Vicar
2 The 95 Thesis
3 Materia Prima
4 Free Market Barbarian
5 Lycanthropic Fantasies
6 Ask the Casket
7 Heavyworlder
8 The Tell-Tale Heart........ Awesome Alan Parsons Project cover
9 Kon-Tiki
10 Second Coming
11 Tactical Air-War

Great band steeped in the Traditional Heavy Metal camp yet with an indefinable quirkiness about them .If I had to put a sound tag on this album I would say it is something along the lines of a mixture between Manilla Road , a bit of Brocas Helm and old Iron Maiden ...yet remaining what it is that makes Slough Fey . .....The Lord Weird Slough Fey .....
Sonic Shamans that they are, The Weird Lord summon ancient animal spirits and set them loose upon the modern world

So I guess you get the point by now and I probably don't need to explain this is a favorite of mine from 2010

TRIPTYKON ~ Eparistera Daimones

Triptykon_Eparistera-Daimones.jpg

Doom / Black / Death / Thrash / Gothic / whatever

band members :

Thomas Gabriel Fischer (vocals, guitar, programming)..,AKA Tom G. Warrior ala the mighty Celtic Frost
V. Santura (guitar, vocals), Vanja Slajh (bass),
Reed St. Mark (drums, percussion, 2008),
Norman Lonhard (drums, percussion, 2008-present)

Awesome mixture of doom , black , death ,gothic and thrash metal stirred up in the witches cauldron forming a complicated and intriguing musical combination .Tom G. Warrior returns to carry on in the direction of the very last Celtic Frost album, Monotheist but it is doomier and also more crushing .The heavy guitar licks and Tom's vocal output are indescribably monstrous . A behemoth of an album the magnitude of which will probably be lost on most the others here at this site who might attempt a listen but one that I could have easily picked for my number one spot.

Track Listing :

1 Goetia
2 Abyss Within My Soul
3 In Shrouds Decayed
4 Shrine
5 A Thousand Lies
6 Descendant
7 Myopic Empire
8 My Pain
9 The Prolonging

Triptykon really surprised me. Sheer power and great riffs. I didn't think I would like this after reading your intro on the band but I was wrong. All those elements combined really work for my ears. Excellent.

Since Joe surprised me with his appreciation of Triptykon I thought that I would post this next release and see if I am not pleasantly surprised once more . Either way Joe, I have to say I respect the fact that you are open minded enough to have given it a chance.

COUGH ~ Ritual Abuse

RITUALABUSE.jpg

Psychedelic / Doom / Sludge / with some Black Metal influences

This is a release that I recently picked up due to recommendation from a fellow doom metal enthusiast. I have only listened to it twice so far but
had I heard it before trimming my list it would have been given a spot somewhere without a doubt.

1 Mind Collapse
2 A Year In Suffering
3 Crippled Wizard
4 Crooked Spine
5 Ritual Abuse
