Music you like/love that's not really made for your gender?

I personally think its stupid that music is even 'made' for a certain gender.
Music should be enjoyed by everyone!!
Besides, everyone is a larger target market anyways xD

I wouldn't say it's consciously done. You write what you know so a female artist will write about female topics/feelings. It's the emotion itself that's universal which explains why a hard rock fan can still relate to the emotion of a Sarah McLachlan, Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, etc. song! :grinthumb

I think a better description would be "Music you like/love that has subject matter opposing your gender"

And for me, A lot of Sarah Blasko and Sally Seltmann/New Buffalo's songs would qualify :)

Actually now that I think about it, quite a lot of the female pop singers/bands I listen to would probably qualify

Any specifically awkward lyrics in that if you were to sing them? :heheh:

Oh countless. And I sing them with all my heart! :heheh:

"And I'm running just as fast as I can to tell you the news
We can do this together, we can, yeah me and you
When you hold me I can see
This is exactly where I wanna be
You're the harmony to my heartbeat, baby"

Oh yes! :heybaby:

It's hard for me to think of the majority of music in any real sense of gender. Unless a woman is singing about childbirth or menstruation, it's probably actually not ever all that gender specific. Allowing for homosexuals or bisexuals, it might not even be necessary to change pronouns.
Anyway, Heart and Joni Mitchell are both easily top 10 artists on my list. And there's lots of female singers I like. I'm as apt to like a female singer as a male.
In roughly 30 years of playing in bands ( mostly classic rock and country/country rock), I've played in 5 bands that had female lead singers...two of those had more than one female in the band - one of which is the Heart tribute I'm currently a member of. Female voices are very handy to have in a rock band.
