I like AC/DC and all, but Back in Black is really overrated. It's not nearly one of the best albums of the decade, but everyone seems to love it so very much. It's a good album and all, with great songs, but I don't get why some people are so fascinated with it.

Anything by Genesis or Phil Collins in the 80s was overrated. Doesn't anybody remeber that Phil Collins was inescapable there for awhile. He was everywhere with his singing into a bucket sounding voice. Just awful, scary, nightmarish, vomit-inducing and downright sickening.:yo:

In case you couldn't tell, I hate Phil Collins.

duke and abacab were great

Looks like everybody is lumping overrated together.. BUT, cant use overrated without using "Hype".. Some stuff is overrated of something thats completely different that doesnt have anything to do with hype, but on the other hand overrated and hype are so blurred together it would be extremely difficult to separated one from another...

Overrated but not hype:
For example... Ted Templeman and Jeff "Mutt" Lange did such a killer job on producing these albums that it was worthy in anybody collection for years to come.

Overrated with hype:
Then the other side is a lame ass slick scam to sucker you into the flavor of the month for no other reason then to get your money.

Then the last:

Overrated that succumb to hype:
Gun and Roses (among a long list) is a perfect example of this... "Welcome to the jungle" was and still is a killer tune, Slashs guitar solo is rock solid and something every guitarist would want for theirs... BUT then like everything in hype it gets far bigger then what it was connected to, wanna guess what happen when the bands ego (or certain members in the bands) had a superiority complex and selling themselves out to all their hype.. remember that concert on August 22, 1991 in St. Louis? That was basically the end of that band..

So list it again.. overrated with or without hype and for why...

Overrated:
to rate or appraise too highly; overestimate

Hype:
to create interest in by flamboyant or dramatic methods; promote or publicize showily

Well, I have to respectively disagree with a passion. Amazing CD. All the songs are just perfect.

It's one of my top 3 Metallica albums...:D

I have to give Mud a little credit though, because of his influence I have begun to like Megadeth more now than I have ever before.

Apetite for Destruction. I do own it, and some of it's good, but it's definitely not the mega album people put it forward as. GnR = Average Aerosmith covers band.

As for Van Halen, everything Diamond Dave touched turned to Gold. I ****ing love Van Halen. The 6 pack is absolute rock solid.

Master of Puppets

I like the album but I have to agree as a thrash album this is ridiculously overated especially since most people I know recommend this as though its the only damn thrash album out there. I don't really consider it thrash, most songs except 2 or 3 are of melody or slow tempo.

Back in Black isn't over rated, its rated perfectly for what it is, a legendary rock album, considering the shoes Brian had to fill, considering all obstacles Ac/dc had to overcome to even continue as a band, that album deserves every bit of praise it gets.

I find it to be the one Metallica album that does not deserve all the praise it gets. Ride The Lightning is much better. And Justice For All could have been their best album if the production did not suck. Master Of Puppets is extremely overrated along with Reign In Blood. Reign In Blood though is much better than Master Of Puppets IMO.

I like the album, but I agree. Best thrash album IMO well Beneath the Remains and Arise are two I would put a head of Master Of Puppets as the thrash album to check out.
