Money For Nothing Approved For Canadian Radio

Not sure how many of our Members outside of Canada are aware of this, but the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council has reversed it's ruling that Dire Straits 1985 hit Money for Nothing was unfit fit for Canadian radio based on the lyric...That little faggot's got his own jet airplane / That little faggot, he's a millionaire. Apparently stations will have the choice of playing the edited version or the original.

Chalk one up for free speech.

The whole affair has been rather ridiculous because the lyrics are satirical and were never intended to be a slur against homosexuals.

It's about time, the overzealous people that go nuts over something as simple as a satirical song like that one only end up looking foolish. There are many other serious causes these lobby groups/censors should be dealing with.

This took way too long, I think we have to actually reverse the political correctness that has gone to the absurd these days.

I am gay and have never found offense in the song. The song was a satire on the rise of MTV through the eyes of some "blue collar guy". Like it or not, I'm sure "that little faggot" was what a lot of people said about Boy George (who I believed those lines were talking about) back then.
