MICHAEL ANTHONY Has No Plans To Go After VAN HALEN For Songwriting Credit On Reworked Old Songs - Jan. 30, 2012
Former VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony says he's looking forward to hearing the band's new album because it includes material that he recorded with the group before they got signed in the 1970s.

Speaking to the U.K. digital radio station Planet Rock, Anthony said, "They [the current lineup of VAN HALEN] played a show in New York the other week. There was [a] song they played called 'She's The Woman', which is actually a song that was, basically, written before I even joined VAN HALEN."

During the same interview, Anthony said he has no plans to go after his former bandmates for songwriting credit on the reworked compositions on the new VAN HALEN album, "A Different Kind of Truth", despite their former policy of crediting all members equally. "I don't want to do anything," he said. "I just let it be." He added, "And, hey, it'll be nice to hear some of those old songs again that I haven't played in a long time."

Interesting. I'm not sure if he just wants to keep his ties cut with the band, or if he's playing nice so that someday he can be back with the old boys in a "REAL" reunion. Either way, I guess it's pretty interesting how he's handling this.

I would bet you any amount of money that Sammy wouldn't be able to turn the other cheek.

I admit I'm looking for a quick answer and don't want to go back over all the Van Halen news articles that have come out lately to figure this out: Have the band officially admitted that the tracks on the new album are recycled old but unreleased material? Just curious is all. Don't have an opinion on that.

I guess Michael Anthony even though he's buds with Sammy is still trying not to completely burn his bridges with VH? Weird situation ...

It would be nice if Eddie and Alex would take notice to Michael's continued coolness.

It's been acknowledged from the very beginning when David rejoined the band Opera Races. They have a lot of old material laying around and wanted to see what they could do with it.

I remember that clearly when this reunion was in the early stages so Sammy has really done nothing but say what we already knew.

I agree about Michael Anthony MP...he has shown his caliber throughout this whole episode, and why shouldn't he take the high road, after all Van Halen will be the high water mark in his career no matter what happens with Chickenfoot.

Ah, ok ... Thanks, LG!

Fundamentally I don't have a serious problem with VH using "old" material. I think there's other bands too I wouldn't mind if they did something with certain old unreleased music, demos, etc.

Another impression I get about Michael Anthony is he isn't desperate for the money and VH wouldn't be worth the aggravation for him at this point. Seems to me he finds Chickenfoot a lot more fun and less stressful situation.

^^Exactly, everyone in Chickenfoot is secure in their own right and respect each other.

Van Halen will always be Eddie and Alex's band they make no apologies for that.

I read Slip's post about Sammy's time in VH in the other thread and do sympathize with what Sammy had to put up with when the brothers were drunk all the time, but this is a new start for them and I hope for Eddie's sake he stays sober and healthy.

It does not bother me that the songs were old demos that never made it. I mean all bands do that. I do that lol. Old riffs and ideas that never saw the light of day come out and get reworked. so hey its still new to us. :)
