Dig the artwork but the new song they put out was not bad but not that great either.

Once More Round The Sun is a pretty decent album.
Tread Lightly is a nice straightforward opener.

It's a good album, one that will definitely grow on me. I think it's probably their most accessible album to date, but I do miss the sludge from the first albums and particularly the psychedelia from later albums.

Yeah they do seem to have stripped down the sound a bit, I like that though in a sense because I enjoy that they don't want to repeat any of their previous sounds.

At first listen I wasn't near as impressed as I am now. Really good album though not as reaching as their earlier work. Still a very solid and enjoyable listen after a little getting used to.

Album gets better each listen. Even Tread Lightly which didn't click for me straight away has gotten better to hear. They seem to evolve their sound on every album they do.

Agreed, really diggin it at this point. Went out and bought it last week and it is sooooo much better then I gave it credit for the first couple of listens.

I agree with both of you, the album does get better with each listen, but it's not nearly as good as "The Hunter" was and thus, it feels like a slight disappointment to me. I can appreciate the fact that they did something different though and on the positive side, expectations – which are usually sky high – will be lower for the next one, which could work to their advantage.

That being said, who knows, maybe the album will click with me differently in a couple of years and it'll become one of my fave Mastodon albums :heheh:
