I am not sure Feldy, I only know a couple of songs from the original band, but that looks like a South African name so you might be right.

Re: Manfred Mann's Earth Band

Wasn't Klaus Voorman (friend of the Beatles, designer of the Revolver cover, etc) a member of the original Manfred Mann band?

Yes, my boyfriend:D Klaus Voorman WAS in Manfred Mann 1966-1969 played bass :)

Also Mike D'abo was too...who's daughter Olivia D'Abo(KAREN ARNOLD) is a fairly good actress who starred in The Wonder Years T.V. show..in the 80's (she also briefly dated Julian Lennon !)

I have all the Manfred Mann's Earth Band material up to Somewhere In Afrika. In fact I just picked up a couple of remastered CDs yesterday.

Re: Manfred Mann's Earth Band

I am a huge Springsteen fan, but even I think that MMEB's version is a lot better than the original. Of course, the original is at the bottom of my list of Boss songs. I don't like MMEB's "Spirit in the Night", which comes across as (and probably is) a rushed attempt to cash in on their ability to transform old Springsteen songs into progressive hits. They also did a cover of "For You" later, but it's as bad as their "Spirit in the Night".

I love "The Roaring Silence". It was unavailable on CD for a long time. I don't like any of their old stuff, and I can't say that I've heard anything later than "Roaring Silence", so I'm definitely not an authority.

You didn't post any Manfred Mann's Earth Band. You posted Manfred Mann. Two very different bands. These are the albums I have by MMEB.

Manfred Mann's Earth Band
Glorified Magnified
Messin'
Solar Fire
The Good Earth
Nightingales & Bombers
The Roaring Silence
Watch
Angel Station
Chance
Somewhere in Afrika

They were released between 72 and 83. The Cds were released in the early 90's and the remastered versions were done in 2005 in Japan.

Re: Manfred Mann's Earth Band

I'm among those who think of Manfred Mann as a '60s' band. Thanks to Astrid for finally posting a mention of "Do Wahh Diddy Diddy" and my own favorite, "The Mighty Quinn (Quinn the Eskimo)" which, if I'm not mistaken, was written by Bob Dylan.
