Skynyrd is one of my favorite BIG American bands of the 70's Nuthin' Fancy
being my favorite studio album and then of course One More For The Road is a friggin' southern fried rock and roll melt down. To hell with the hoe down
In memory of Ean Evans who passed away on this day in 2009!
Ean Evans / “The Mississippi Kid”
Sept. 16, 1960 / May 6, 2009
Evans picked up the guitar at 15, and was soon playing with various rock cover bands throughout the southeast. He eventually switched over to bass and formed his first original band, Cupid's Arrow. He went on to play in the Outlaws before forming another original band, NOON, which released an independent label CD. After the death of Lynyrd Skynyrd bassist Leon Wilkeson, Ean was called on to fill his friend's position. He joined the current line-up of Lynyrd Skynyrd in August 2001 in Las Vegas. He continued recording and touring with them until he was diagnosed with cancer in 2008, which caused him to cut back on his perfomances. He lost his battle with the disease at 48.
Billy Powell of Lynyrd Skynyrd died at the age of 56 of a suspected heart attack in Florida on 28th Jan 2009. Powell called police saying he was having trouble breathing and emergency services tried to resuscitate the musician but he was pronounced dead an hour later.
Love me some Skynyrd. Best southern rock band ever (Allman Bros. invented it but they perfected it). Yes, they are extremely overplayed on the radio and everywhere else so I rarely play any of their albums (I have every vinyl LP they made, even "The First And The Last"). One of these days If I ever NOT hear any of their songs for about 4 months, I'll go on a major Lynyrd Skynyrd kick and play em all.
