Song Sung Blue...

Don't know if this has been aired on here before, but it's certainly worth a listen. Jimmy Page's debut single from 1965, on which he plays every instrument, except the drums, and also does the vocals - very wise leaving that stuff to Robert, Jimmy :gig

49 Years Ago: Jimmy Page Releases His Debut Solo Single
Wow... 49 years ago. :****: Agree that it was in Page's best interest to cede the singing duties to someone who could.

It actually doesn't sound much different from a lot of lead vocals of that type of music and that time period.

Not at all even a bad song from 1965!

Has a real Yardbirds feel as well.

It is true that a more confident vocalist is a better thing for someone of his talents but he's not bad. Just incredibly average.

Thanks for posting this.

Led Zeppelin to Reissue First 3 LPs With Unreleased Songs

"The material on the companion discs presents a portal to the time of the recording of Led Zeppelin," Jimmy Page says

As Led Zeppelin once promised, the song remains the same – but this time they're throwing in a few extras. This summer, the group is reissuing their first three albums as deluxe editions packed with previously unreleased goodies.

It's the first installment in what the band describes as an "extensive reissue program" of its nine studio albums that have been remastered by guitarist and producer Jimmy Page. Moreover, each record will come out as a single-disc remastered album or as a "Deluxe Edition" with a bonus disc of previously unreleased studio and live tracks that the group recorded around the time of the album. The new versions of Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II and Led Zeppelin III will all hit stores on June 3rd.

The albums will each be available in a variety of formats, including single CD, two-disc deluxe edition, single LP on 180-gram vinyl (with a sleeve that replicates the original Led Zeppelin III moving wheel), deluxe-edition vinyl and digital download. The group is also putting out a limited-edition "Super Deluxe Boxed Set" of each album that includes all of the audio on CD and vinyl, as well as a high-definition audio download card, a hard-bound book containing rare and previously unseen photos and memorabilia and a high-quality print of the album cover, the first 30,000 of which will be numbered. The Super Deluxe edition of Led Zeppelin will also contain a replica of the band's original Atlantic press kit.

"The material on the companion discs presents a portal to the time of the recording of Led Zeppelin," Page said in a statement. "It is a selection of work in progress with rough mixes, backing tracks, alternate versions and new material recorded at the time."

The deluxe edition of the group's 1969 debut, Led Zeppelin, will feature a concert recording of the group's October 10th, 1969, gig at the Olympia in Paris. The nine-song set list included seven cuts from the album, along with two songs the band would put out on Led Zeppelin II later that month, "Heartbreaker" and "Moby Dick." The group performed a 15-minute version of "Dazed and Confused" at that concert.

Led Zeppelin wrote much of their second record while on the road, and they put it out nine months after the release of their debut. The bonus disc for the deluxe edition of Led Zeppelin II includes alternate mixes of five songs that made it onto the album, one that didn't (the previously unreleased "La La") and the backing tracks for "Thank You" and "Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman)".

Almost exactly one year after the release of their second album, the band released Led Zeppelin III, with the record's deluxe edition featuring seven studio outtakes of album tracks alongside three never-before-released tracks: an instrumental precursor to "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp" called "Jennings Farm Blues," an instrumental version of "Out on the Tiles" dubbed "Bathroom Sound" and the blues medley "Keys to the Highway/Trouble in Mind."

Page first announced that he had been working on the reissues in November 2012. He told Rolling Stone at the time that, in addition to treating his fans to new "sonic and visual thrills," his goal with the reissues was to make them sound better. "The catalog was last remastered 20 years ago," he said. "That's a long time. Everything is being transferred from analog to a higher-resolution digital format. That's one of the problems with the Zeppelin stuff. It sounds ridiculous on MP3. You can't hear what's there

Late last year, frontman Robert Plant told the BBC that he had discovered some tapes that featured, among other things, some contributions by another vocalist: bassist John Paul Jones. "So far, he's going to give me two cars and a greenhouse not to get 'em on the album," he said with a laugh. "Oh, John . . . you can't wait to hear yourself singing all over the world." He did not say which recordings feature Jones' vocals.

Last month, Page announced via his website that the reissues would come out this year. In addition to the Led Zeppelin albums, Page also said that he would be releasing "some of my own material from the archives," but has yet to detail those releases.

Here are the track lists for each of the bonus discs available in the deluxe editions of the albums:

Led-Zeppelin Ultimate Classic Rock 3/13/14

After teasing us this morning with the cover art, Led Zeppelin have announced the complete details of the remastered and expanded versions of their first three albums.

Each album will be released in a variety of formats — including “Super Deluxe” boxed editions — on June 3. In the future, Led Zeppelin’s other six albums will get similar treatment in chronological order.

All three albums will be released on CD, digital download and 180-gram vinyl, the latter of which will replicate the original packaging perfectly (including ‘Led Zeppelin III”s original wheel and die-cut holes). The Deluxe Edition — also available in all three formats — contains a set of bonus tracks. ‘Led Zeppelin’ contains a concert from the Olympia in Paris on Oct. 10, 1969, while ‘II’ and ‘III’ have alternate takes and mixes, instrumental backing tracks and previously unreleased songs. See below for the breakdown of the tracks on the extra discs.

“The material on the companion discs presents a portal to the time of the recording of Led Zeppelin,” Jimmy Page said. “It is a selection of work in progress with rough mixes, backing tracks, alternate versions, and new material recorded at the time”

In addition, there will be a Super Deluxe Boxed Set for each album that contains the Deluxe Edition on both CD and vinyl, with a card for high-definition digital download. Also included in the Super Deluxe Boxed Set is a hardcover 70+-page book about the album and a high-quality print of the original album cover, with the first 30,000 individually numbered. The set for ‘Led Zeppelin’ features a replica of the press kit from that album.

You can pre-order all formats except digital from their website. The prices are as follows:
Super Deluxe Boxed Set: $134.75
Deluxe Edition Remastered Vinyl: $54.32 (‘Led Zeppelin’ — 3 LP), $43.84 (‘II’ and ‘III’ — 2 LP)
Single Vinyl: $28.18

Jimmy Page to Receive Honorary Doctorate From Berklee College of Music

20140312-jimmypage-x600-1394642127.jpg

Following this morning's reissue announcement, there's more big Led Zeppelin news today.

Most of Jimmy Page's dreams and fantasies were probably realized sometime around 1977, but here's one that the legendary Led Zeppelin co-founder likely never envisioned coming to pass: On May 10th, the guitarist, producer, and songwriter will receive an honorary doctor of music degree from the prestigious Berklee College of Music. The ceremony will take place at the 7,000 seat Agganis Arena at Boston University.

In an email to Rolling Stone, Page commented that, "It's truly an honour to be the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate at Berklee as the music of America has been a primary driving force in my early years and pivotal to my musical development."

Joining Page as honorees, all of whom are being celebrated for their achievement and influence, are jazz pianist, composer and educator Geri Allen, singer, songwriter and producer Valerie Simpson (of Ashford and Simpson fame) as well as jazz trumpeter, composer and educator Thara Memory.

Past Berklee honorees include David Bowie, Carole King, Loretta Lynn and George Clinton.

On May 9th, this year's honorees will watch and listen as current Berklee students perform music from their careers. In recent years, honorees such as Willie Nelson, Steven Tyler, Alison Krauss and Annie Lennox have joined the students on stage. It's unknown whether or not Page will do the same, but at the very least, should he chose to, he won't have to look very far to borrow a violin bow.

Congratulations to him and all the other honorees.

Remasters More News...

Per Mojo magazine...

Led Zeppelin Remasters Arrive At Last

Led-Zeppelin-remasters-770.jpg

Jimmy Page offers exclusive thoughts as Led Zeppelins I, II, and III are boosted with carefully curated bonus tracks.

As predicted by MOJO towards the end of last year, the first three Led Zeppelin albums will be reissued with a plethora of exclusive bonus tracks on June 2.

1979765_635255363213572_838647122_n.jpg

Led Zeppelin I: black becomes white.

Earlier today, three album sleeves were posted, unexplained, on the group’s Facebook page. They appear to be rather attractive ‘negative’ images of the covers of Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II and Led Zeppelin III, underlining the status of the new releases as ‘alt’ versions of the originals.

Each album features a ‘companion’ disc presenting unearthed material from the group’s creative heyday. Treasures include a whole October 10, 1969 show from the Olympia in Paris in the Led Zeppelin I package. Led Zep II and III comprise work-in-progress versions of tracks, giving a unique and fascinating insight into the group’s creative process in their first flush, 1968-1970.

Led-Zep-II-403.jpg

Led Zeppelin II: sacrilege to say this actually looks better?

“In some cases it’s alternate mixes or even backing tracks,” Zep founder, guitarist and curator Jimmy Page explains exclusively to MOJO. “Like Out On The Tiles, for instance. That sounds like a really horny, beefy instrumental. To revisit it like that is like, ‘Oh! Wow!’ It’s powerful stuff.”

Page has been mindful of what is already available to fans in – ahem – ‘unofficial’ form.

“I’m the sort of person that if I start something, I don’t want to leave any stone unturned – so I will seek things here and seek things there,” he explains. “I wasn’t going to be intimidated by the bootlegs that were out there but I was mindful of what was on them. I looked at what was out there and I looked at what I had and I thought, ‘There’s no way this version came out because I knew nobody had it but me.’”

Led-Zeppelin-III-403.jpg

Led Zeppelin III: it’s full of ’oles!

Led Zeppelin III has yielded an especially rich trove of material, including a very different Since I’ve Been Loving You, a conflation of blues standards Keys To The Highway/Trouble In Mind and a previously (officially) unreleased instrumental, Jennings Farm Blues.

“It’s a forerunner of Bron Yr Aur Stomp,” says Page. “There’s all sorts of things that people haven’t heard.”

The subsequent six studio albums will follow in due course. Meanwhile, Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II, and Led Zeppelin III will each be available from June 2 on Atlantic/Swan Song in the following formats:

Single CD – Remastered album packaged in a gatefold card wallet.

Deluxe Edition (2CD) – Remastered album, plus a second disc of unreleased companion audio.

Single LP – Remastered album on 180-gram vinyl, packaged in a sleeve that replicates the LP’s first pressing in exacting detail. (For example, III will feature the original wheel and die cut holes.)

Deluxe Edition Vinyl – Remastered album and unreleased companion audio on 180-gram vinyl.

Digital Download – Remastered album and companion audio will both be available.

Super Deluxe Boxed Set – This collection includes:

Remastered album on CD in vinyl replica sleeve.
Companion audio on CD in card wallet.
Remastered album on 180-gram vinyl in a sleeve replicating first pressing.
Companion audio on 180-gram vinyl.
High-def audio download card off all content at 96kHz/24 bit. (Live tracks are 48kHz/24 bit).
Hard bound, 70+ page book filled with rare and previously unseen photos and memorabilia.
High quality print of the original album cover, the first 30,000 of which will be individually numbered.
Led Zeppelin will also include a replica of the band’s original Atlantic press kit.

The Skinny...

A bit about the "new" Zeppelin releases per Music Direct's website...

Painstakingly Remastered from the Original Master Tapes by Jimmy Page and Pressed at Pallas: Expect These 180g LPs to Sound Better Than Any Prior Zeppelin Pressing

Packing Faithfully Replicates the Look of the Original LP's First Pressing

You've Never Heard These Legendary Records Like This

John Bonham, John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant came together in 1968 as Led Zeppelin. Over the next decade, the band would become one of the most influential, innovative and successful groups in modern music, selling more than 300 million albums worldwide. Their songs are some of the most celebrated in rock 'n' roll history that, to this day, resonate with fans young and old around the globe. Still, no matter how many times you may have listened to their music, you've never heard Led Zeppelin like this before.

Painstakingly remastered from the original master tapes by guitarist Jimmy Page, and pressed at Pallas (Europe's best plant), this 180g LP of Led Zeppelin sounds utterly amazing. Page spent years on this project with one goal in mind: Making these reissues the end-all-be-all definitive editions of his iconic band's records. He has succeeded, and then some. In addition to the reference-caliber audio, each LP features packaging that fully replicates the look of the first pressing of the original album. You won't believe how these records sound, look, and feel.
