Re: Jethro Tull

Rocks On The Road is a monster of a song - pure inspiration from Ian Anderson.

There's a black cat down on the quayside.
Ship's lights, green eyes glowing in the dark.
Two young cops handing out a beating:
know how to hurt and leave no mark.
Down in the half-lit bar of the hotel
there's a call for the last round of the day.
Push back the stool, take that elevator ride.
Fall in bed and kick my shoes away.
Rocks on the road.

Can't sleep through the wild sound of the city.
Hear a car full of young boys heading for a fight.
Long distance telephone keeps ringing out engaged:
wonder who you're talking with tonight.
Who you talking with tonight?
Rocks on the road.

Tired plumbing wakes me in the morning.
Shower runs hot, runs cold playing with me.
Well, I'm up for the down side, life's a bitch
and all that stuff:
so come and shake some apples from my tree.
Have to pay for my minibar madness.
Itemised phone bill overload.
Well now, how about some heavy rolling?
Move these rocks on the road.

Crumbs on the breakfast table.
And a million other little things to spoil my day.
Now how about a little light music
to chase it all away?
To chase it all away.

Incidently, in the UK, Rocks On The Road was issued as a single cassette/cd/picture disc. Chrysalis went overboard:heheh:

Re: Jethro Tull

That is a little over the top Jeffrey...:D

I forgot "Broadsword and the Beast" when I mentioned I thought "Catfish..." was the best album since "Stormwatch" so it would be in the mix somewhere as well.

Re: Jethro Tull

I listened to Thick As A Brick in it's entirety earlier, and it was completely unlike anything I'd heard from Tull previously. So frantic, massive and delightful! :D

^^"...Brick" is a masterpiece one of the best concept albums ever recorded, and I am a big fan of "Passion Play" as well, even though as Jeffrey said earlier it was a divisive record among fans and critics when it was released.

Re: Jethro Tull

Anderson meant for the album to be a send up of rock pretentiousness, critics, and the band itself. The album cover claimed, outrageously enough, that the lyrics had been written by an eight year-old boy, Gerald Bostock, and set to music by the band. Even today, Anderson still gets the occasional person asking about Bostock or commenting about the prodigy's advancing age.

Re: Jethro Tull

^^i will list all the "special editions" of tull i have collected at the end of the discography velvet, but it is a considerable amount of albums now.:d

okay after "rock island" came what many fans feel is one of the best albums jethro tull recorded since the 70's, 1991's "catfish rising". I have no idea where they got the name from but it doesn't really matter this is an ass kicking album. The band seems to have rediscovered their fire and play with an intensity that is reminiscent of their early days. A little bit of everything is on display on the album that makes jt special, showcasing the diversity that i always loved about this band. I would have to say this is the best album they released since "stormwatch", with "crest of a knave" next in line for me at least.

Sparrow on the schoolyard wall.
