Who is the greatest guitarist on the planet?

On the face of it, that question if a no brainer: It's Hendrix. Or Clapton. Or Page. Or Beck. Or...is it? As Guitar World recently celebrated its 30th year in publication, we picked 30 guitarists who named their own heroes — and the results will surprise you.

I'm not sure if it's any better but it's very interesting to see who fellow guitarists consider the best. It's also nice to see Leslie West, Alvin Lee and Brian May mentioned and suprised Joe Perry didn't pick Keith Richards.

I think that it is ANYTHING BUT a no-brainer that Hendrix, Clapton, Page,or Beck are the "greatest" players ever. I think that Beck, while my least favorite among that grouping, is the only one of them that merits consideration based on technical proficiency. There are MANY players that are technically more talented ,IMO.

It's more then just a bit of a subjective opinion and most of it is based not only on talent but personal taste as well when people start throwing the "greatest" title around.

An interesting list and good to see Malcolm Young mentioned. I think he is a great rhythm guitarist

I think this is a better idea than most lists. I didn't particularly care about alot of the choices on this list but I would like to see more lists like this rather than the usual fan polls.

Much better. The descriptions for each entry are honest and sincere rather than the pseudo-objective tripe that populates most lists.

It's interesting to see who they picked for their favorites but all these kind of things I take as fun, not seriously.
