How do you decide what to play

I only listen to music two ways, vinyl or CD. I do not own an iPod and have never downloaded music onto my computer.
I usually do what others have mentioned, thumb through my collection until I find something to play.
Since finishing the master list of my LP collection I review the list looking for something I haven't heard for awhile.
Sometime I dig out an album or band that I see posted here on CRF.

^Thanx for your comments & i had a feeling it would be a mood thing.^
Just to let you know a bit more about my listening habits.
Any new stuff goes onto an old ipod.If i like it it goes into my main system in the bedroom that is a pair of speakers with an integrated ipod dock.If after review i dont like it i usually file it away and give it another chance later. If im out dog walking i like to listen to real good stuff on my ipod(fav cds etc)Forgot to mention that i split my cd into 2 parts for my ipod(just like side 1 or side 2 for vinyl).eg Tulls aqualung
A1 Aqualung 6:35
A2 Cross-Eyed Mary 4:10
A3 Cheap Day Return 1:25
A4 Mother Goose 3:55
A5 Wond'ring Aloud 1:57
A6 Up to Me 3:16

Id listen to these songs first and if the mood takes me id then listen to side b if you get my drift.
Any bonus trax are listened to later so it does not spoil the flow of the album

Good question, it also is a mood thing for me most of the time, but on occasion I'll just pick a record/CD at random and listen to it.

When I'm in a party mood, I'll play some of the Mixes I've done of various uptempo tracks, and some of my old compilation CD's.

Normally I listen to an album in sequence and from start to finish, grew up listening that way and haven't changed.

It is a mood thing for me, I listen on CD (when my better half is at work) and as I work a lot I put all my CD's on to my two iPods straight away so that I can listen anytime and when I am out I can keep a track of what I have so I don't double up by mistake as I have so many albums. That is why I have some good cans and I have my eye on some new Motorhead ones:)

I will also add that if I'm having a couple "Pops" it affects what I listen to, for example after 4 pops there is a much better chance Saxon or Priest will make an appearance. :cheers2

If its something like a hot day today I likely crank up black metal or something with a darker tone to it like Opeth. Music like that helps me on a ridiculously hot Summer day.
