Hendrix/Morrison/Joplin Ruck?

I was reading about this today in 'Classic Rock' magazine. It's a story I've never heard before, and it was a great read. I'd be interested if anybody has any knowledge about it. The story was told in quotes from various audience members/hangers on who witnessed it. It was 1968 and the venue was a New York club called 'The Scene', run by a guy called Steve Paul, with a capacity of around 100. Jimi was a regular there, often getting up on the stage to jam with others. Janis Joplin also attended regularly.
On this particular night in walks Jim Morrison (who Janis apparently hated). Jim was (surprise surprise) drunk/smashed and he went over to Janis's table and yanked her hair. She responded by hitting him with a bottle This was just the warm up.
Later on Hendrix got on stage for a jam, and Morrison decided to join him. After a few yells into the mic, Morrison got on his knees and acted out oral sex with Jimi, shouting "I'm gonna suck your cock"! At this point it became too much for Janis, who saw this as total disrespect for Jimi. She got on the stage and threw her drink over Morrison and then hit him over the head with a bottle (again!) - causing more damage this time. The three of them then fell into a complete brawl on the floor of the stage and had to be separated by their various minders and roadies. Morrison and Joplin were marched out by their people and Jimi?....Well he just started playing again

^^I can picture that happening easily...

Now that I think about it they all died much too young, definitely a product of the 'it's better to burn out...than fade away' approach to life.

Morrison was a church mouse in his early days, but his stage fright was so bad he needed a few drinks to feel comfortable taking the stage, eventually he lost complete control and the end result was predictable.

Good story JTG, and I've never heard it before either.

I have a Hendrix tape where Morrison drunkenly accompanies him on a rendition of something. He is too drunk to be entertaining but keeps shouting apparently into the audience. But if he is talking to someone from the context of what he is saying it is definitely a guy.

^^^ Yeah, I have that on vinyl..it was recorded at the Scene Club. I haven't heard that exact story that Johnny Too Good told, but Hendrix was famous for showing up at little clubs (especially after shows and being at the studio for hours). So it wouldn't surprise me one bit.

This stories has been past down for years. The poem Morrison reads is called "Lament" and is in one of his published books of poetry. May all three rest in peace.
