Re: Genesis

I'm pretty ashamed of myself for not actually taking the time to get better acquainted with Genesis while they still had Peter as their leader.

I'm more familiar with "Invisible Touch", "Genesis", and "Abacab" - two of which I played the living shit out of as a kid.

Re: Genesis

Don't be ashamed, the music isn't going anywhere! :heheh:

And I myself have only delved beyond their platinum collection compilation for the last 6 months!

Re: Genesis

I have 10 Genesis CD's now...pretty much everything they have done that I want. I stop at Abacab...as I have said elsewhere I prefer the early Gabriel line-up, and totally respect what Phil and Mike and Tony did without the other members, up to a point then they became a pop-rock band and I kind of lost interest. Still some decent songs on their later albums no doubt about that.:grinthumb

Genesis

I like genesis because it is unique. A drummer that sings, what's not to like?

Re: Genesis

I know a lot of genesis "purists" think the band went to crap once Gabriel left the band, but for me, it got a lot better. I prefer the general direction they went and like a lot more of the "trio" Genesis as opposed to the "prog" Genesis.

Abacab has always been one of my personal faves.

Re: Genesis

I reckon that's about the 5th time it's been posted here, but I don't care. It's a fantastic tune!

LG, you should at least give Invisible Touch a go. Of the four post Abacab albums, I find it the most diverse, even though their self titled is my favourite. I agree that the title track isn't one of their best works, but the rest of the album makes up for it IMO. Domino is brilliant, and the full version of Tonight, Tonight, Tonight is also great. We all know Land Of Confusion, and Anything She Does is another song that's catchy, but in a good way! :D

I thought this was in the Graveyard! Bumping for the sake of bumping, and also so I can put a link to it in my band of the month thread :D

Re: Genesis

Don't remember if I posted yet on this thread. Whatever :)

I haven't been listening to much prog/rock in recent years but when I was a "prog hole" a few years back I was playing a lot of Genesis. I have everything from "Tresspass" to "Abacab." I like their heavy prog/rock era the most. I think "Suppers Ready" is one of the great, side-long epics of all time. I really dig "A Trick Of The Tail" and "Wind & Wuthering" a lot too.

I've been digging A Trick Of The Tail a lot as well, Squonk is already high on my list of favourites, and Mad Mad Moon and Entangled have grown on me a lot :)
