Re: Genesis
I just got my hands on a couple of interesting and very enjoyable CDs..."Genesis For Two Grand Pianos" and "Genesis For Two Grand Pianos Vol. 2". It's exactly what it says it is - arrangements of classic Genesis tunes for two grand pianos ( and nothing else). I'd recommend these for Genesis fans or for fans of piano in general. Having these tunes stripped down to two pianos highlights what excellent compositions they really are in the first place.
Also, this was of particular interest to me because I'm very familar with this format - my dad is a concert pianist and has been part of a duo piano team for about 35 years, playing two piano arrangements of classical music, Broadway tunes, pop tunes, church hymns, etc. all over the world...so I've been listening to this type of stuff since I was a kid. And hearing these Genesis tunes done in this fashion was highly interesting to me...sorta like when you see an artist you like do a solo acoustic show and the tunes are stripped down to their essence and you see them for what they are. Of course this is Genesis so it's still very busy music. I think I appreciate Tony Banks even more now, if that's possible. The track listings are as follows...
"Genesis For Two Grand Pianos"
1. The Fountain Of Salmacis
2. Mad Man Moon
3. Can-Utility and The Coastliners
4. One For The Vine
5. Down & Out
6. Duke's Travels
7. Evidence Of Autumn
"Genesis For Two Grand Pianos vol. 2"
1. Me And Sarah Jane
2. Seven Stones
3. The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
4. The Battle Of Epping Forest
5. Blood On The Rooftops
6. Eleventh Earl Of Mar
7. The Cinema Show
Runtfan gives these both two thumbs up !!
