Dream Theater
I've tried Dream Theater lots of times but I find them just too heavy to be prog.
I know that I am in a very distinct minority so I don't shout it from the rooftops!
Some of their stuff is truly excellent - don't ask me to name tracks! - but others just bore me to tears.
The only album that I ever bought, kept and played quite regularly was 'Octavarium' - some good stuff on there.

Hmmm...
I've heard quite a lot of their stuff but to me they seem as the ultimate rip-off band, stealing riffs, runs and melodies from other bands.
I only have one original item by them now - the 12" EP, 'Fly High Fall Far' - but I used to have the album 'Window of Life' which - I believe - backs up my theory.
So many tracks on there I sat back thinking, "hang on a minute... I know this tune..."

Perfect example?
'Ghosts'
This track features the Genesis riff from 'Dance on a Volcano' and also the melody of 'Stranger Than Fiction' by NZ band Split Enz.
Much as I like those two original tracks I wasn't prepared to listen to another band plagiarising them.

Other opinions are, of course, always available. ;)

Apart from the normal suspects..
Atomic Rooster.
PFM.
Genesis.
Yes.... this band with Rick Van Der Linden-
... saw them on OGWT centuries ago and had to wait yonks to buy it... ultimate prog
Trace - Gaillarde.
Got one!
Found it on eBay - almost perfect, just a few ticks and clicks.
£2.20 - ridiculous price for a 1974 album of such quality! :)

And, further to the TRACE album...
If you like that then you'll *LOVE* Triumvirat - a German keyboards prog band - or at least, some of their output anyway.
It's not all great, but I can heartily recommend these three albums without any hesitation whatsoever!

Kim Mitchell's band get overlooked then Pigeonholed into 'cult prog'... they remain one of my favourite Canadian outfits... bits of Genesis, Eno and Yes are all abound.
Max Webster - Diamonds Diamonds.

... from a time when The Move went into cross-over mode... Wood and Lynne were on the cusp of prog... and inches from ELO. The thud of that 'Brontosaurus' bass and electric piano just add to the smorgasbord of sound.
The Move - The Words Of Aaron.

Hatfield and the North... tremendous stuff, saw them in Plymouth... I think, they were the stuff of legends at house parties back then!
