According to Andy Edwards above this is the first true side long prog epic......maybe....I have no idea because several bands wee doing weird stuff back then...at any rate here it is...
btw one can here the ELP beginnings since Emerson on keys started ELP later.

Thanks for the you tube link....never heard of them. They definitely fit into mid 70s' prog rock.
The only band I know is 'Axis' with an I which is listed on Prog Rock Archives.
'Axas' is not listed. They were from Deer Creek,Indiana apparently which is not that far from where I live between me and Indianapolis. I found them on Discogs https://www.discogs.com/artist/5295636-axas
They are about my age so I wondered if I knew any of them since I was in Bloomingtom at IU from 1969-1975 but none of the names ring a bell. They remind me a bit of 'Styx'.

I have always been a prog fan and especially the so-called 'Canterbury' bands genre.
A few examples:

Hatfield and the NOrth- Rotters Club - 'MUmps'


Caravan-In Land of Grey and Pink- 9 Feet Underground

National Health- Of Queues and Cures- Bryden Two Step
