Re: "The Official" Eminem Thread

Someday I may gather the courage. ;) A lot of people knock on rap but I'm a firm believer in that it can be just as fun and creative as any other genre. In fact, you could even say it's a distant relative of rock as it has roots in the blues. I do think a lot of the shallow "rappers" of today have tarnished its reputation though.

Screw what others whine about as far as taste! :heheh: It is fun and it is creative. It's not even arguable. I even like some of the shallow ones. no difference between a rapper rapping in a glamorous bravado and a glam band or party band doing it. Rappers are the rock stars of today! :grinthumb

I not-so-secretly enjoy the shallow ones too.

Eminem was a perfect mixture of that. Fun, satirical and a complete ass one minute... a perfect example of a true "from the streets" artist the next!

When i was in 3rd grade my life changed drastically. I was at a record store not far from my house with my mom. She said i could pick out one CD to buy so i began browsing. All of my friends were talking about Eminem so that was the CD i bought because i wanted to fit in. I'm over that by the way. Anyway i brought The Eminem Show up to the counter and my mom said something like "You have to get the clean version" so i did just that. The next day i went to a Yankee game so i listened to the album on my walkman for the duration of the 2.5 hour drive and i was so hooked. I wanted the real Eminem experience so i asked my older cousin to burn me a copy of his explicit version and that was the most definitive album of my life until i started listening to DSOTM last year. I feel like Eminem helped me to mature much quicker than many of my friends who just listened to all mainstream while i stuck to Em. Now I am the biggest Eminem fan of anybody I know so i would LOOOOOVE to talk Eminem with anyone on here.

My brother is a big Eminem fan. He went to his concert last week and a whole crowd of fans were disappointed because the sound was practically non-existant. Just a waste of money :( I think they had it fixed for the next night.

Well at least it wasn't Em's fault. Sorry to hear that your brother had a bad concert though, Sunny.

Actually, from what I hear he usually puts on a pretty darn good show. My friend has seen him multiple times here and across the pond. Anyone remember that crazy 2000 VMA's performance with all the lookalikes? Standout performance IMO.

Favorite tracks from the Eminem show is a really tough question for me. I would say Sing for the Moment and Hailie's song are two of my favorites but i really love Em's verse in When the Music Stops. I can't do it, i literally love every single song so much that its too hard to rank them. As for Em live goes, i have never seen him although i had a chance to when he came to Yankee Stadium recently. I do own the Up in Smoke Tour on DVD and the Anger Management tour and they are two of the best shows i have ever seen anywhere online. That's just my opinion though, i have a strong bias when it comes to Em.

Kinda surprised there's an Eminem thread on here, lol. Anyway, Eminem is by far my favorite rapper of all time. I truly don't think any rap album ever made is better than The Marshall Mathers LP. My ranking of his albums would go MMLP>SSLP>TES>Recovery>Relapse>Encore. His first three albums are classics, not just in rap, but in every genre of music. I do like Recovery a lot though. Relapse was good though some tracks are unlistenable. Encore was just a huge disappointment. I'm also an Eminem collector of sorts. I have all of his albums, DVD's, and books. His book "The Way I Am" is great. Every Eminem fan should check it out. His DVD "AKA" is great too. Treach from Naughty By Nature (one of his biggest influences) narrated it. And if you want Eminem at his best live, check out "The Up In Smoke Tour".
