I was reading that earlier myself about the pre-history leading up to ELO and then Jeff Lynne pretty much assumed control of the band.

Not sure about the 10CC connection, they seem to have a few things in common with ELO. I will post my favorite 10CC album in a new thread I have planned for tomorrow.

Oh no, I was only comparing the circumstances - 10cc were known as Hotlegs before they became 10cc, though Eric Stewart like Jeff Lynne was apart of the 60s beat group Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders. I think Eric Stewarts association with Graham Gouldman might have been around even in those days, though Graham Gouldman wasn't apart of the Mindbenders he wrote "Pamela, Pamela" for Wayne Fontana after he seperated with the Mindbenders. What's also interesting is 10cc formed the same year as ELO, though 10cc's music is perhaps a little bit different to ELO, they just seem to have that interesting connection where their members come from a Pop-based background and I was guessing that one might have been influenced by another - even though we know ELO evolved from something The Beatles started.

Okay now I see what you are saying, then you are correct they all seemed to form their new bands around the same time, and knew each other before that.

Re: Electric Light Orchestra

While we are waiting for our Autographed CD's etc., time for the next entry in here.

The first album I bought, Face the Music. The song Evil Woman was the reason I bought this when it was released, my sister loved the song Strange Magic, she about wore that one out on my vinyl album. I had to play this one for a while to truly get into all the songs, but after a couple of months I settled on Fire on High as my favorite, which is amusing seeing it is one of the few instrumentals ELO ever recorded.

Here's my Sister's favorite song.

The cover.

Re: Electric Light Orchestra

Every one knows that Jeff Lynne was born in England, right? Well at one point in his life, during his early 20's, his family lived in the USA. How do I know this, because I have met him, and his parents too.

My eldest brother is the same age as Jeff, and they shared an apartment together in Columbus, OH. I was very young at the time, about 6 years old, but I have seen him many times as a child. He was always doing something related to music, and my brother has some pretty original tapes of them in their apartment. Before anyone asks, I don't have access to these tapes, my brother guards them with booby traps!!

My brother's first child is named after a song written by Lynne, even though he never got credit for the song, he did write it. Angie by the Stones, was written in that little Apt in Columbus, my brother has the original paper it was written on :)

Anyway, I may be able to raid his photo album.....I will see if he will share his pictures!
Aw man what I wouldn't give to have been in you or your brother's position :p I'd like to meet any rock legend really lol

Re: Electric Light Orchestra

My nickname on another forum is ELO_chick :) One of the only bands whose complete catalog I bought. I was pretty much a one-band chick until I joined the original version of this forum. After trying out every band I heard about on here, my musical taste and album collection has grown like Pinnochio's nose LOL

Enough of this. I'll cast my dissenting opinion here. I think E.L.O. was one of the prime reasons why the punk movement arose to give rock the kick in the ass it much needed in the late seventies!

Re: Electric Light Orchestra

ELO was harmless, just a good band doing their own thing, and I'll take their music legacy over almost all the punk rockers that came later to put all the old 70's rockers in their place.

ELO were the product of "I am the Walrus" by the Beatles, which in a way is Psychedelic music & Psychedelic music in a way lead to things like Metal and Punk. Though Punk didn't just evolve from those things, in the 60s there was Garage Punk music which were merely groups who would put an edge on the music at that time and that in a way would step up a notch in the 70s.
