I play guitar too....but whether, people think I'm good or not is another thing!
:heheh:

I'm a humble guitar player. :)

Anyway, it's all opinions here...

I voted for Eddie...but, like I said earlier, Eddie seemed to lose a step, sort of speaking in his guitar playing skills, imo...

And Zakk Wylde is probably still at the top of his game.

Honestly I'd like to see Eddie play live, and see how he does, but as long they touring as Van Halen without Michael Anthony - I'm boycotting Van Halen concerts.

Zakk is a HIGHLY SKILLED player and writer ( anyone who can't see that ...can't be taken seriously ) whether or not someone dislikes his music or his style. I happen to love his style. Whatever though, Harmony's opinion is valid as anyone elses

..but then most peoples opinions need work :heheh:

I have to applaud this because it makes alot of sense because Eddie has of course chops and as a shredder he can pull off alot of simple scales and magical sounding finger work.. Zakk on the other hand can play what Eddie does when he was 18.. Go back and listen to my one post.. He could even pull off playing something Eddie would do but Zakk played it behind his back..
Lets not forget that Ozzy used him as his lead guitarist for years.. what stopped that was Black label Society was gaining speed and Zakk was starting to do his own thing. And if you listen to Gus who replaced him.. He also does pitch harmonics..
Lets face it folks.. Choosing Eddie over Zakk is favortism..I like eddie.. But he's no match for Zakk...

It's doesn't mean anything actually ..just an opinion. Lots of people think Sabbath are horrible. That doesn't make that a fact, just an opinion shared by a number of ( morons :heheh:) people. LOTS of people can play guitar too..Hell, my brother is an MIT grad, in a band I'm not going to mention here and gives high priced lessons to an ALWAYS growing list of eager students in his free time. He can play almost anything. His opinion is still just his opinion.

I'm a community college grad, and I play guitar on my couch, self taught from tabs, and you are right, my opinion is that Ed is better AND I also enjoy early VH better. Zakk's cool, but overall I like Ed's stuff more because that's what I like.

Lets face it folks.. Choosing Eddie over Zakk is favortism..I like eddie.. But he's no match for Zakk...

So you're a mind reader and/or a shrink?

I like EVH over Zakk because that's what I like. **** what everybody else likes. In fact, I "tend" to dislike what the masses like just because everyone likes it. But, in the end, I like what I like because that's what I like--period.

Do I like that piec of F%^$ band Pink Floyd? F^%$ NO I don't. How is that? Everyone here loves that band--except me! So how does that work?

I respect Cosmic's opinion because she can play the guitar.

I've heard/read many comments that say the same thing about Zakk's playing so there must be something to it and his particular style.

To me Eddie's legacy is simply better, and I prefer him to Dimebag as well.:D (I have to say though Eddie is almost on my Axl Rose list of musical morons now with his pathetic prevarication concerning the new VH album...:nw:)

Well I'm in no way a shredder but I appreciate hearing that, LG. :heheh:

I know that I'm not the only person that has my opinion on Zakk's playing and don't get me wrong, I love the albums he did with Ozzy (well, aside from "Black Rain" and half of "Down To Earth" anyway) but it's like this to me....Eddie is best known for popularizing tapping but he doesn't use it all the time or even in every song whereas Zakk is best known for pinching and he can't seem to go 5 seconds without doing it. It's just overkill for me, ya know?

Eddie over does the tapping. I was in the second row right in front of Ed on the 5150 tour and all I remember him doing was tapping which bored the hell out of me. Conversely I don't really get sick of Zakk's use of pinch harmonics, but I still like Eddie better--at least old VH. When I saw Eddie on the Fair Warning tour he just rocked a lot harder.

I know there's always a lot of talk about Zakk's "overuse" of the pinch harmonics whenever a conversation like this comes up, even from fans of his (of which I am). I can totally see how someone would get tired of it. Personally, they don't bother me at all and it is one of the things that first drew me to his style of playing.

But again, I can understand how it could be a turnoff to others after a while.
