I have always loved 'Another Day' from 'Images and Words'. It is by far my favourite Dream Theater song. But other than that, I simply cannot get into this band's music! And I have tried. A lot. I have listened to many of their epic high speed prog classics like Metropolis, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, Trial of Tears and what not. I can admire their masterful precision playing but the music and vocals do nothing for me. Is there anything similar to Another Day that I can try listening to?

I'd have to revisit all their albums to come up with a meaningful suggestion, from the sound of it you're just not a fan of DT. I understand a lot of people feel the same way, and if I don't like a vocalist then I can't get into a band either RATM and RHCP being two that come to mind right off.

I came late to the DT party but once I sat down and listened to them I was a fan instantly.

I was also a late comer to DT and a friend copied a load of their albums onto CD and I saw them twice and was impressed. I have purchased a few of the albums and then I bought the last one and I was not that impressed, just wasn't heavy or proggy enough for me and just sounded like they had gone more mainstream.

Same here I was a bit of a late comer to DT's sound. I think it was the Images and Words album that got me proper into the band. Love the new album still but albums like Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence are still for me their peak work.

When Dream And Day Unite

I hear at some stage about every other DT album but not too much of their first album. I think its better than some of the material like Falling Into Infinity and Train of Thought.

Love this album. There's some great material on here, especially contributions from Kevin Moore - Light the Fuse and Get Away and Only a Matter of Time.

I like raw debut albums from bands that go on to great things. It's interesting to hear them in their most basic form with a lot of energy and youthful excitement.

The 15th anniversary 'official bootleg' release is cool too.

I love Dream Theater as a whole but after "A Dramatic Turn Of Events" I've not been keeping up with them. That album felt very recycled and I still haven't even checked out their newest one.

Hate to admit it, but I think you're right. New drummer Mike Mangini is excellent, but a piece of Dream Theater died when Mike Portnoy left.
The last two albums are all good/very good but lack the innovation that I've come to expect from them.
That said. I'd still go and see them any day, and I'll probably continue buying their albums in the forseeable future.
