That's not good news at all, but it might just be scaremongering.

On the other hand - if Gibson were to go out of business ( which I seriously doubt) then maybe the value of all those delicious classic Gibson guitars such as the one shown below would go through the roof.

1979 Gibson "The SG" .

Together with it's brother "The Paul" , which looked very similar apart from the obvious shape differences, these two guitars were originally designed as affordable Gibsons, but had the most outrageously overwound pick ups installed in them, the result of which is a signal output which easily matches that of the more modern ceramic humbuckers on more recent Gibsons. Both the look and the pick up output of these guitars has made them increasingly desirable (and expensive) as the years have passed. This guitar plays like a dream and sounds awesome.

Only bought one guitar at Guitar Center back in about 1990. A Charvel 375 DLX. LOVED that guitar. Could make it scream. The various tones were perfect for the hard rock stuff that I was playing. Unfortunately, that guitar got destroyed when it was stolen a few years back. I can't remember if I ever posted pix of what it looked like when I got it back. Still breaks my heart.

Anyway, it's not surprising to see that Guitar Center is (again/still) in financial dire straits. So many music shops have gone through similar financial problems, although obviously none on such a grand scale. I can't remember the last time I was in a GC that had more than about 5 customers in it.

Some times I like the look of Strats and at other times I like the look of Gibsons especially the SG model like Speed King's example above although I prefer the body in a cherry red colour. Personally I own a Epiphone Flying V that I paid something like £460 for it around 15 years ago although it's usually kept in it's case most of the time these days.

I like the looks of Flying V's, but I always hated playing them because of the awkwardness of the body style when sitting and jamming. Either had to stick the 'V' over one leg or I found that I'd end up leaning forward awkwardly.

Do you know what woods are involved in yours ..? Fingerboard looks like rosewood but I'm not sure about the body. The body on mine is walnut as is the neck, and the fingerboard is ebony (I think)
