Re: David Bowie

So I got the strongest urge to listen to the "Ziggy Stardust" album the other day so I pull out my copy and put it in and what happens? It skips...A LOT! There are like scratches on it or anything yet it skips horribly....:wa:

Well I have it on my computer too, but it's not the same as having a hard copy of it you know?

Re: David Bowie

Well I was talking about the album more so than the song itself. "Ziggy Stardust" is one Bowie's most famous but in my book it is not my favorite. It's not even my favorite song on that album for that matter.
Though to answer your question (sort of) I do think it has a great guitar part.

hit me like an asteroid first time I heard it on the radio
thought I was hallucinating

I think it is his best but I'm prejudiced

Re: David Bowie

Hunky Dory is my fave album so good lyrically and so laid back, the vocals are so haunting and there is not a bad track on the album with Rick Wakeman on piano and Mick Ronson on guitar, classic.

Re: David Bowie

What's pretty wild was that around '71 Bowie took on the persona of Arnold Corns for a side project to make a splash on the Glam Scene. Arnold Corns thought he had a sure fire hit single but it failed miserably...the single that was released..."Moonage Daydream".
Under that name he recorded quite a few demos which are pretty interesting including a version of "Hang Onto Yourself" which featured Gene Vincent who happened to be in the studio

Re: David Bowie

I caught the Ziggy Stardust concert on TV today and I've gotta say that while I loved the entire concert (though was bummed that he didn't play "Life On Mars?") I was actually rather moved in the first third of it because it was just so good and Bowie has such a presence and played many of my favorites. A++ work.

Also on a side note: that concert was the perfect example of why Mick Ronson is the most overlooked guitarist of all time and the most important guitar player in 70's glam.
