Christine McVie retired from Fleetwood Mac 15 years ago, and while she’s occasionally attended the group’s concerts, she’s repeatedly refused her former bandmates’ requests to join them for a performance. But maybe her resolve is finally weakening.

McVie has been mostly off the radar since her retirement, and Stevie Nicks once said the chances of her touring again with Fleetwood Mac were akin to “an asteroid hitting the earth,” adding, “She is done. You know when you look in somebody’s face and you can just tell? She doesn’t want to do it any more.”

That hasn’t stopped the group from inviting her onstage for a one-off when she pops up at their shows, but she’s always turned them down. Now, though, it seems she might have had a change of heart.

BBC Radio 2 host Johnnie Walker, who says he talked to McVie last week, reports, “I did put the question, ‘Christine, is there any likelihood you might join Fleetwood Mac on the U.K. shows?’ She said, ‘If they ask me, I’d play.’”

This echoes something she said earlier this year. And since she’s expected among the guests at next week’s U.K. premiere of Nicks’ documentary ‘In Your Dreams,’ there will be plenty of opportunities to make the request before she changes her mind.

I could make an observation about the inner workings of the female mind at this point......but I'll let it pass.:)

If she plays a few gigs with her friends fine, if she changes her mind at the last minute I wouldn't be surprised.

I just felt when they announced this tour it would have been great for the whole band to tour one last time together before they are too old to do it any longer.

Fleetwood Mac is a class act though, when Stevie Nicks was too stoned to perform here on the "Tusk" tour, Lindsay Buckingham saved the show, and afterward Mick and the band promised to come back and do a free concert for everyone who bought a ticket. And they did exactly that.

I just read that Christine will join the band for two shows to do a one song appearance at each. Looks like she's doing the Mick Taylor thing. It's not known yet what song she'll do, but Stevie Nicks thinks it will be "Don't Stop". She'll be joining the band for rehearsals.

Christine McVie will make a guest appearance with Fleetwood Mac at two of their upcoming UK shows, Stevie Nicks has confirmed.

The news follows speculation that the retired vocalist could sing with her former bandmates once more, after she told BBC Radio 2: “If they ask me, I’d play.”

She’d attended several Mac shows since retiring in 1998, but hadn’t previously taken the stage with Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood and ex-husband John McVie.

Now Nicks tells the BBC: “She’s going to come and do a song on the second two shows. I think it will probably be Don’t Stop. I don’t know – but she’s coming to Ireland to rehearse with us.”

A band spokesman was not able to clarify which of Mac’s eight shows she referred to, although it’s likely to be their appearances in London on September 24 and 25.

It’s not likely that McVie will make guest appearances further afield after Nicks explains: “She doesn’t want to fly. She doesn’t want to come back to America.”

And she reflects that she didn’t realise how much her co-singer brought to the band until she’d left. “From the very beginning, we made a pact that we would be a force of nature together – and we were.

“We had a lot of power when there were two of us. That wasn’t really so noticeable to us, because we just had, it until she left.

“Then I realised how much power we had when she was there, and how when she left she took 50% of the power with her. I felt powerless in many ways.”

This is exactly what a lot of people felt would happen, that Christine would do a few 'cameo' appearances and that's it. She seems adamant about staying retired from the rigors of touring with FM. I do wonder if she'll ever record with them again though, that would be a lot easier to manage she wouldn't have to fly anywhere and could still spend time with her old bandmates. We'll see, but having her show up to sing one song wouldn't inspire me to buy a ticket to a show, not that it matters they are all sold out anyway.

Nice to see such a warm reaction when she stepped onstage, would have been nice to hear a couple of other songs off the White Album too.

I don't think is anything more than a special situation and she'll go back into retirement when Mac leaves the Islands.
