Best album of the 80s?

Nice pick, although I would personally pick Lifes Rich Pageant if you asked me to pick best REM album of the 80s. I do like Murmur but prefer Pageant and Document.

Perhaps the later albums are better, but it's the album that I cut my REM teeth on, so it holds a special place in my heart. When it was released it was such a breath of fresh air compared to all the other music coming out at that time.

As far as Queensryche goes as good as Mindcrime was I actually liked The Warning and Rage for Order a bit more.

Really? I like those albums - have them on vinyl - but for me Mindcrime is in a whole different league.

There were so many great albums in the 80's, but if I have to pick only one, I'd say Somewhere In Time by Iron Maiden.
