Please dont ever confuse Avril with Miley Cyrus, yuck, Avril, is so much better then that. Avril doesnt use autotune or play back and plays 3 instruments and writes her own songs. And Disney didnt create Avril cause well AVril created Avril.
^^I have respect for your knowledge and passionate support of many of the Pop artists out there AAG, but I cannot stand Miley. I didn't like her TV series,(The few minutes I saw while surfing), and I certainly can miss her 'coming out' porn queen antics. This is all old news, Madonna has done it before and better.
Her music I don't like, Avril I can listen to along with Katy and Taylor.
I don't disagree with you at all about her antics... but Gaga, Katy, seems like they all do that crap. I just don't pay attention to any of that, it's all about the music for me. I couldn't even tell you most of the people Taylor dates, and I worship her.
I was never a Miley fan either, I'm not trying to defend her or anything. But I've never been one to argue with results and unfortunately Miley's new album is a lot better than Katy's. She'll never be half as good as Katy overall but if I want new dance pop to listen to right now, I gotta concede Miley's doing better than a lot of her peers at this particular moment.
This, for example, I think is a really cool song.
To each their own, of course. But as a guy who's been disappointed by a lot of the new dance pop albums I'm forced to admit Miley's pretty good at it.
^^You have forgotten more about dance pop than I know AAG, not likely to change either.
I know it's gotten ridiculous what all these divas will do now to get out front, the days of class acts in the pop field seems to be dwindling. Bearing in mind I'm not a big fan of this genre anyway.
Ordered 3 tickets to see Avril Lavigne open for The Backstreet Boys. Can't wait to finally see her, it's been a long time coming. I wish I would have gone ten years ago when it would have been a truly great show, but I was always too embarassed back then and didn't have anyone to go with.
Hope she has a nice long set and does stuff from the first two records. Not sure why she's opening for The Backstreet Boys anyway... I mean, sure, BSB were huge in 2000. But I'm pretty sure Avril's stayed a lot more relevant in the last 7 or 8 years. Heck, Girlfriend was a number one single if I recall. I don't think anything new by BSB has been a hit since I was in middle school. I won't mind getting to see them too though, I do like them.
Avril's also been in some hot water for her latest song.
People are saying it's racist. I don't think it's racist, I just think it's in extremely poor taste and so dumb it makes Rebecca Black's "Friday" look like a Bob Dylan song in comparison. I've always felt that the white suburban kids who try to be Japanese are no different in concept from the white suburban kids who try to be African American, and we've seen plenty of music videos by white kids appropriating African American culture. So I don't think Avril was trying to be racist, she was probably just trying to appeal to the white kids who want to be Japanese. That's an audience which has become predominantly female over time so it makes sense as a business strategy, no matter how completely awful the song itself is.
In any case I'm thinking of getting a bunch of Hello Kitty gear to wear to the concert as a laugh. Hahaha
O.K., I heard about that video but not why it was so bad. As far as stereotypes it's really not that bad. People overreact over everything. You are right though. The song is pretty uninspired and seems to throw the Skrillex riffs in their just because.
Hope you have fun at the concert AAG. I know Backstreet Boys have had minor spikes in popularity in the last five years but I agree that Avril is the more relevant act. Sometimes it's just having the biggest hits behind you though and touring in intervals that makes you the bigger live act though.
