"Making Plans For Nigel"...XTC was okay, I only have one album which considering how productive they were is not enough to offer a qualified opinion.

Underrated I think would be my take on them.

Sounds like an invitation to make a thread about this awesome band. Hmmm... I feel the need to post some stuff again this week hehe

The negative reaction to disco was racially and homophobically motivated.

I disagree. It was a backlash against the whole Studio 54, "Saturday Night Fever", John Travolta in a white leisure suit culture. How was that racial or homophobic? All those assholes were white, and probably straight.

And some of my favourites:

Depeche Mode
New Order
Duran Duran
Dream Theater
Madness
Boston
Billy Joel
Cold Chisel
Crowded House & Split Enz
Dinosaur Jr.
Foreigner

Guns N' Roses is the first band that come to mind. After many generic L.A. groups ruled the 80's Guns came out at the ass end of the decade and was bigger, better, grittier, and more rockin' & rollin' than any of the other 80's bands could have ever dreamed.

Mainstream music in the 80's was going good and getting interesting till 1983 came and all the tosh started coming out and this drove all the classic rock away and we had some real dribble coming through, Bananarama for a kick off...
