Different artists represent different eras of the Sixties, if you're looking for historical as well as sentimental meaning.

Bob Dylan encapsulated the early Sixties atmosphere of civil rights and later, anti-war protest. Songs of his such as 'Blowin' In The Wind', 'Masters of War' and 'The Times They Are A Changing' are anthemic of the times. Other folk artists who followed in Bob Dylan's stride with poeticly cryptic lyrics and such include Joan Baez, Phil Ochs and early, Beatnik era Donovan- who's cover of 'Universal Soldier' is my personal favourite rendition.

Hurdy Gurdy Man mentioned The Who's 'My Generation' which conveys the youth rebellion of the mid Sixties. Also a Mod anthem. The anti-establishment theme is also carried by some of the early songs of the Rolling Stones, including 'Satisfaction' and 'Get Off Of My Cloud.'

The psychedelic era is epitomised by The Beatles, who's songs 'All You Need Is Love' and 'A Day In The Life' captured the era of the 1967 Summer of Love. The Lennon-penned 'Strawberry Fields Forever' may interest you for the introspective lyrics about childhood and insecurity. Procol Harum's 'A Whiter Shade Of Pale', Jefferson Airplane's 'White Rabbit' and The Zombies' 'Time Of The Season' are all evocative of the era.

The Vietnam protest songs of the latter end of the decade can be represented by Creedence Clearwater Revival's 'Fortunate Son', Crosby Stills Nash & Young's 'Ohio' and Country Joe & The Fish's 'Fixing To Die Rag.'

I hope this post was useful. As for songs with sentimental value, try 'God Only Knows' by the Beach Boys, 'Here There And Everywhere' by the Beatles, 'Orange Skies' by Love, 'Ruby Tuesday' by the Rolling Stones or 'Death Of A Clown' by Dave Davies (of the Kinks)

EDIT: I forgot to mention Simon & Garfunkel's epic 'America' from the 1968 album 'Bookends'. It deals with themes of going on the road (how much more 'Sixties' can you get?), the 'American Dream' and disillusionment. One of the best songs ever penned by the duo, my personal favourite Simon & Garfunkel song.
