More Phil Collins drumming:

I must confess it's not the kind of tune I'd want to remember, sure it would more appeal to some - LG might appreciate it, but it just seems to be all a bit of a bla bla bla.

How popular would I be if I post a Christmas song in January! :lmao:

The tune itself isn't Genesis' best (though it's still cool) but you really have to listen to the drums, they really stand out.

Oh yeah I'm not saying the drums don't stand out - personally I couldn't miss them, I'm just saying that a lot of Phil's popular tunes don't seem to be drum standout songs! :D

That tune from Genesis you posted earlier though reminds me of a Simon Phillips Solo he did for Toto on the Livefields album! :D

I know the Kiss fans are gonna get me for this, but (and I am a Kiss fan myself) I think the late Eric Carr was overrated. I mean he's a good drummer and all but just look at the albums he played on other than Creatures of The Night the drums just don't stick out on any of them. I see him as just a typical 80s metal drummer. IMO Peter Criss had much more soul and feel to his drumming in Kiss.

let the hate roll in, i mean no disrespect towards fans of any of these guys though.

1. Ringo Starr -- he's an okay drummer, but compared to Danny Carey from Tool, John Bonham from Led Zeppelin, and Neil Peart of Rush, he's really nothing special.

2. Lars Ulrich -- he's an awesome drummer, but the fact that he's kind of a dick overshadows that.

3. Keith Moon -- Just a bit too wild for my liking.

4. Phil Collins -- I just never liked him that much

5. Travis Barker -- like Ringo, okay, but nothing special. just because he can move his arms really fast doesn't mean you're a good drummer.

Now, here are the five BEST drummers in my opinion in no particular order. Neil Peart, Bill Ward, John Bonham, Nick Mason and Dave Lombardo

It seems like you're basing these two opinions on their personal lives and are letting it get in the way of their musical talent. Of course you are entitled to your opinion, and hell...I could be wrong. But personal lives of musicians shouldn't come into play when giving opinions on the musical aspect of their lives.

The thing that made Ringo great is that he fit in perfectly with John, Paul and George. The Beatles songs didn't call for a drummer like John Bonham or Neil Peart. Ringo did what the songs called for. He shouldn't be docked points for not being a showboat.

John Bonham. The guy sounded like he was playing a pair of garbage cans with clubs as sticks and putting his foot through the bass drum. Lots of power but no finesse whatsoever.

I agree with foreverblue that Keith Moon and Ginger Baker both put Bonham to shame. Moon was wild, but he was always right on target for Pete Townshend's songs, especially on a song like "Bargain". He remains my choice for the best rock drummer ever.

Absolutely. Criss was a student of Gene Krupa and the very early Kiss displays this. I think he got lazy later on but those first 4 or so albums he really has a fire to his playing yet doesn't ham it up too much. The fact he was singing and playing is icing on the cake.

As has already been said he was the right tool for the job. Like Charlie Watts a drummer who was at all flashy might have been unbalanced in such a group.

2. Lars Ulrich -- he's an awesome drummer, but the fact that he's kind of a dick overshadows that.
Asholery aside I just don't think he's anything other than a fair drummer.

3. Keith Moon -- Just a bit too wild for my liking.
Keith is an acquired taste but I don't think The Who would have made nearly as potent hard rock songs without that particular engine driving them along.

4. Phil Collins -- I just never liked him that much
If you like jazz at all you should check out Brand X when he was in them. I like his Genesis work (you have to go back almost to the first few albums to hear this because later on he was focused on singing and actually toward the end used a session and touring drummer), but didn't understand what people were going on about until I heard Brand X. He is a machine when he's playing with them. Really impressive.

5. Travis Barker -- like Ringo, okay, but nothing special. just because he can move his arms really fast doesn't mean you're a good drummer.
Don't even know who he is really. Someone who played on Priests more recent albums? I'd have to like the music to really give it a good listen.

Nick Mason I like quite a bit but he (like all of Floyd) mainly sounds good because he has learned to put the right thing into their music (much like Ringo and Charlie Watts but with considerably more fills and oddities). Can't remember who Lombardo is so I can only say the rest of your favorites are very understandable.

No hate here whatsoever. Opinions are interesting but unless the affect policy how can you hate someone over such a thing?
