And the forum is clearly a rock forum--what did you expect, Lawrence Welk and Liberace on the list? I don't know 75 percent of those dude's tunes.

Which dudes, the ones I listed or Lawrence Welk and Liberace? I can't help it if you don't know anything about Wilson Pickett or Sam & Dave. A lot more people voted than just you, anyway. How one person votes doesn't mean much. The collective is much more interesting.

And I personally don't care if they have "rock" elements in their music. I like real rock, not rock influences, aside from blues guitar.

Rock elements? Wilson Pickett is more rock and roll than 90% of what is discussed here.

And I's powerful sorry but, "Rock," aside from the aforementioned blues guitar influences is indeed white guys (yet another thing I can feel guilty about). (as far as guitarists, I voted BB King and Buddy Guy as players in my top ten) The guys you mentioned are NOT rock--that is a fact, so there is no justification in crying foul because they weren't included.

I don't even know where to begin to respond to this. It's probably the most ignorant thing I've ever read here.

I like guys that rock, that's why I'm posting on a rock forum. And as far as artists being culled from any genera, I threw in Dean Martin, and Morrisey on my list of 10...Dean Martin is hardly rock...Would Sammy Davis have been more to your liking?

What the hell does Sammy Davis, Jr. have to do with this discussion? If you were willing to throw in Dean Martin (whom I like) and Morissey (ouch!), then quit prattling on about how you like guys that rock.

And I'm also not saying "soul" influence is bad. I love a blues based rocker who plays or sings with soul (Jake E Lee or David Coverdale for example).

Sheesh.

Soul is indeed a great element in rock music, but this is a rock forum so we got a list of rockers.

Of course, I'm not saying that I expected the list to be a balance between the two. I merely noted that not a single soul artist was included, not even one!

Thanks for being 'you' and continuing to posting like you always have. Whatever man.

And thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule of Amy Winehouse retorts to string together a few words here.

Jeez why do folk take this kind of thing so seriously ..................

It's not that I'm taking it seriously. I didn't even take the time to vote in the thing. It's just really amusing how people think soul music and rock are mutually exclusive.

Dude, I don't have a single artist pick in the top 40. It's a favorites list and most of the artist on the list will fit most demographics because they are high selling, successful artists for a reason. I love tons of Soul music but I don't ever expect Marvin Gaye to beat Zeppelin anywhere even if I prefer him. What I do here if I want certain music represented is I either shit or get off the pot because as a member I have the power to create what I want here. I can either make a thread or contribute to one that fits what I want. You've been in here repping Soul here but I've made more contributions to the genre than you have. Here are a list of threads a Soul afficionado like you has not posted in:

Bill Withers

Marvin Gaye

Stevie Wonder

Aretha Franklin

Joss Stone

Charles Bradley

That's just a handful. Where are you? Sorry dude but this isn't your first "lack of Soul" reference and I have more respect for people who are proactive in getting what they want than doing nothing and lobbing out criticism.

No, your guys. If i didn't know the guys I mentioned, I obviously wouldn't have mentioned them. Yeah, a lot more people voted than me--and they voted for rockers!

i think you made a wrong left turn somewhere--you're lost--in cyberspace, and mentally.

you obviously don't proof read your own posts do you? And you brought race into this, not me. Stop crying at every opportunity and spare me your liberal drama. Get your kindling, and a flame, and burn me at the stake--I don't care--your PC psycho-babble doesn't intimidate me--not in the slightest.

you made mention of all genres so I brought up the guys I voted for who were not rock, or are borderline rock. I may (and do) like other genres than rock, but I don't throw a hissy fit in a rock forum--like you--because nobody here likes the Smiths. Sammy is obviously a reference to Dean...To satisfy you, I had to get my quota in now didn't I?

sheesh.

Two things:

1) No more talk about there being a lack of soul singers on this thread, we get it, you don't like the fact that there are no soul singers. Let's just get back to the point of this thread, the 50 singers that ARE there.

2) If you wish to continue talking about the soul singers or if you want to talk about any soul singer in general, go here: http://www.classicrockforums.com/forum/f5/soul-r-b-60s-2479/?highlight=soul

Otherwise, let's just get this thread back on track. It's not being used the way it should be used. That's just my own personal opinion, it's supposed to be a bit more positive than it is currently.

Hmm, I'm dissapointed there isn't Howlin' Wolf on the list. I know he's blues and not rock, but same could be consider with metal and rock, and Dio made it in top 10. I thought Plant would be rated higer, at least higher than Mercury and McCartney. Don't get me wrong, I'm huge Beatles fan, but Plant's pipes are way better than Paul's. Then again, I'm glad for Dylan, because his voice is actually perfect for what he's singing and how he's singing, but better than Morrison? I don't think so. Anyway, this is just my opinion. I hope this won't start any fight or anything, I respect you all :D
