I have to agree with the age thing when it comes to comparing these two bands. For younger audiences I think Guns is the more popular group mainly because Slash has been so incredibly popular since his appearance in Guitar Hero III. Plus for better or worse they are the one of the two to actually release an album in the last decade. Van Halen does have more good albums but I for me the songs that I like from Guns I really love more than for Van Halen. The two are the epitome of what hard rock should be if you ask me though.

And I know you don't plan on picking up up and other Guns N' Roses albums, LG, but in the off change you somehow feel like it then I think "Use Your Illusion I" is the route you should go with. Those are all songs that were written during the Appetite time period. ;)

Guns N' Roses peaked harder and better, but Van Halen's the one who had the longevity, so its really hard to choose. But I would go for GNR at the end of the day.

The date this poll was made.. 01-07-2011, 06:05 PM :heheh:
I think 7 months is long enough to try and let GNR catch up to Van Halen..

GNR. Van halen havnt made an album anywhere near the quality of appetite for destruction

I won't argue with that, although I think a case could be made for Van Halen self-titled. However, Van Halen made several very good albums to GnR's one. Furthermore, Van Halen was just intrinsically cooler without even trying than GnR could ever be. I wasn't around in 1978, but I think I get what Van Halen brought to the table, and it was the most perfect formula for universally accessible hard-rock post Led Zeppelin. And I don't think it's been duplicated since.

If the author doesn't put a time limit on it then it's open for as long as people want to vote in it.

Besides I don't think VH are in any danger of being caught.

I will move this to the Band vs Band sub-forum though, it does belong in there.
