How did you get into rock music? What's your story?

Many of us don't even consider Guns N' Roses to be Classic Rock.

I'm more liberal. If it features electric guitars and drums, it's classic rock to me. Otherwise I'd be tieing myself in knots and splitting hairs all day trying to define the genre.

Mr. Shadow:

I would hear rock music on the juke box in the bowling alley where I would shoot pool and play pinball.

What a great combination! Pool, pinball and an old-fashioned jukebox!

I bought my first album--Jimi Hendrix Experience "Greatest Hits" at the age of ten.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience at the age of ten! Wow! That would be like a Girl Guide losing her virginity to Long John Holmes!

I got to work concessions at many rock concerts, or got free tickets through connections. I worked security for local Who and Rolling Stones shows.

Meanwhile most everybody else had to pay to see the Who and the Stones!

:grinthumb

My music world changed the first time I heard album oriented FM radio.

Mine too! And I've never looked back.

Midnight Rider:

My older brother told me I should watch Ed Sullivan because this really far out band was going to be on. I watched and between the screams I found something special. Been into it ever since.

That show did it for me as well. A lot of us wouldn't be nearly as into rock if it wasn't for having seen that show.

The Ed Sullivan show for me, when I saw the Beatles perform. But I have to credit my Mom for getting me started, she played music all the time when were very young, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Percy Faith Orchestra, Duke Ellington, Lena Horne, Satchmo, those are a few of the artists she played while doing housework etc., when I saw the Beatles they made a Huge impact on me and I became interested in my own bands for the first time.

I was basically raised on 90's popular music and rock from the 60s and 70s. My dad always played stuff like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, and The Who, and by the time I was 15 I started to get into it. That's about 4 years ago, and now I can't get enough of the stuff!

Interesting. What did you like prior to getting into your dad's rock? What did you think of it before you got into it?

I'm in the same boat as Pink Freud. My mum's a massive Pink Floyd fan, so I had that and U2 playing all through my childhood. Although now I love the Floyd more than ever, I grew tired of U2 quickly.

But the defining moment was just after my 16th birthday, I randomly heard a Who song somewhere and instantly liked it. It was Pictures Of Lily, and when I picked another Who song from my brother's computer to listen to, it was Pinball Wizard. From then on, I began to take music seriously, and my collection has expanded from 150 songs to 3000 and counting in the last two years.

I grew up invading my sister's bedroom when she would have a friend or cousin over to play 45's on her portable record player. That was about the very early 60's I got a good taste of Chuck Berry, The Dixie Cups, Joey Dee and the Starlighters' Peppermint Twist, Fats Domino, and Chubby Checker, Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard..

But the day my world actually changed was when the Beatles were on Ed Sullivan. I pestered my mom for a month to buy me the album Meet the Beatles and she finally gave in. She thought it was the devils music. As they say, the rest is history. I listened to AM radio until about 1969 or so then started listening to FM after that.

Throw in 80s music at a Young Age with a couple of 60s songs which make you think their 80s songs and you get me!
