Something interesting happened last week, I was perusing an audiophile site that specializes in really good equipment, not quite at the "Audiogon" level but close enough for me, and it's a Canadian site which makes it easy to buy and sell your equipment.

Someone in Edmonton posted an ad that he was looking for "IMF RSPM MK IV's", he already had a pair of the IMF TLS 50's, sold those when he found a pair of the TLS 80's and after finding he loved the sound of the transmission line speakers IMF specialized in decided to look for a pair of their top of the line models, the MK IV's which are the ones I own.

I answered his ad, if nothing else to give him the chance to listen to them in person considering he'd never done that and they are rare out here, down in Ontario you might find a few pairs at any one time available but not in Western Canada. Anyway he came over and was completely impressed, he made me an offer that was more than fair, in fact I had considered selling them last spring, mainly because I don't listen to them as much as I used to and certainly not at the volume level when I was young.

I've owned them since 1979 and still have my original receipt. I told him I would sleep on it and yesterday decided I would sell them to him. He will keep them for a long time, they simply don't make quality speakers like this anymore, certainly not for less than $10,000.00 It was his genuine enthusiasm for IMF's that decided it for me, more than the money I am glad to find a good home for them and hope he enjoys them as much as I have over the years.

It is like giving up part of yourself though, and was a lot harder to let them go than I ever imagined but I finally came to the conclusion that it's time to give them to someone like myself, who will treat them with TLC and enjoy them for another 20 years.

Sigh...going to miss them towering in the main room though, they are works of art as much as working speakers.

End of an era for me, but I'll get over the loss eventually and I wasn't sure I would be able to take them with me when I do move again anyway.

I'll post some pictures of them later, before I pack them up for the last time.

^^You are right about that George, it was like losing a friend almost...but because I already considered selling them months ago it made it a little easier to finally give them to someone who's about the same age as I was when I bought them.

I do hope he's not "playin' me" though, if he simply recaps them, does a little touch up to the cabinets and puts them up for sale I will be irritated/disappointed in him. Not that I have any say of course now that he owns them but if that is what he intended to do all along then I would not have sold them to him.

^I can understand why you would not be happy with him tweaking them and then selling. It takes away the originality of it. For me, I usually have some remorse letting go of amps. Love these brutes...

^^I told him if he sold them in a couple months I would "Look him up..." and express my displeasure the same as Tony Soprano would. :****:

:heheh:

I did ask him if he does sell them to let me know first and I'll take them back rather than see them end up with some moron out there. Time will tell George, but now I have a bunch of other equipment I'm selling off. I know some folks might think I was "boasting" in the Wax thread about all my acquisitions, but this was always linked and I've sold 8 pieces of electronics while I was upgrading the vinyl side of the collection, I just haven't talked about it.

The IMF's are different, I have a genuine affection for them....I know that's crazy but it's the truth.

Picked up a pair of Paradigm 20.v's a couple of weeks ago. After a little break in I can not believe how good these things are. I had gone back and forth from B&W to the 20's for a few months and finally made the plunge, couldn't be happier. Now I have a pair of Hales Rev 3's for my son which he will crank when he graduates in a couple of years.
The .V's are a great match for my Classe amp, way more so than the Hales. Hales are a little laid back , but the V's are very lean from the mid bass up.

^Paradigms are great speakers and I would have chosen them over the B&W's too. Canada has some fine speaker companies. PSB is another one that comes to mind along with the defunct Mirage line.

Not really truly stereo related but... I swapped my folks' Marantz SR-19 AVR for a Pioneer Elite VSX-47TX this weekend. The Marantz had an annoying habit of resetting itself to factory specs when there is a blackout. Just tired of re-dos every damn time. Parents aren't really techies. After hooking up it with the other components, I ran the Pioneer's auto calibration system which the older Marantz did not have. The difference was very immediate between the two along with the Pioneer's base setting. It compensated for a less than ideal conditions room wise.

Ran two channel recordings just for my own enjoyment. Everyone was gone to Vegas. The Marantz was good but did not have the clarity of the Pioneer which made the former sound dull and lifeless. AVRs aren't really first choice among discerning audiophiles who prefer separates though they aren't that bad as alternatives. With the usual DVD multi-channel recordings it was stellar. Mom and Pops will be in for a very pleasant surprise when they use it.

Don't have a high end system,More like a hodgepodge I got set up in the Mancave so don't laff.
2 Fisher stv-750 speakers,10" woofers
Sharp cd-c5300,-Has dual cassette, dual 5 band eq,remote control,6 cd changer that has a busted magazine so I play the cd's through the dvd player:heheh:Im not shure how many watts it puts out but I give it credit though,It has enough to push the fishers without a bunch of distortion.
Been looking around for a decent turntable to incorporate into this mess.:heheh:

If you are looking for a "Quality" turntable at a fair price then I would look at Pro-Ject's line. They make some excellent gear and they are better than any of the cheap "USB" knock offs out there.

Check out their homepage. http://project-audio.com/

Fisher has stood the test of time, and still has a loyal following on vintage stereo boards. What kind of amplifier/receiver do you have 1340flh?
