^Tube enthusiasts rave how music sounds rounded, unsterile and more analog. I know someone who has an all tube system from the pre-amp to the amp to even his DAC. He has ribbon speakers to match. It sounds great but he is more into jazz and classical so to him it was a natural choice.

Seeing as how we have a good rapport, I tried to have him play the first Van Halen album...an HDCD version to boot and was shot down toute de suite.

^^:heheh:

I have a new HQ vinyl copy of VH's debut George....and love it.

Yeah I have an extensive classical collection and if the Tube amp is more suited to that genre than Rock music I'm okay with it.

It might be fun just to try it out, never owned a Tube amp before and this store is selling them at half price due to politics/store closures.

I certainly have NO interest in the $2000+ entry level high end stuff I've seen.:nw:

Well, Bruce...I am interested in your take as to how it will all match. I agree that it is more suited to presenting strings, wood instruments and choirs more than electric guitars.

I'll decide next week at these rock bottom prices I don't think they'll be around for long.

I'll let you know if I do get one.

My first test vinyl album would be Led Zeppelin II...:D

I have a great new Hi-Fi, SACD player, amp and speakers, there are pictures in my journal if anyone wants to see them. I am pleased with the sound and they look good too, just normal no fancy buttons or go faster stripes if you know what I mean:)

Kudos to the Cambridge! The other pieces are nice too. Wharfies have and deserve a good rep. The Pioneer looks well built and likely an ace performer.

So last night my 'effin turntable decided to off itself! I set the needle down...lo and behold it just zips across the LP like it was on hockey skates. Aaarrrggghh! The settings are fine... Sigh of relief that my Who "Hooligans" vinyl was unscathed.

Options...get it looked at or have Pro-Ject maybe a Music Hall brand replace it. Soooo damn annoyed...
