Chad Kroeger just needs to not exist...and neither does the rest of Nickelback. Awful awful band.

I agree that Rush had more struggles than necessary because of Geddy, but they also would have had a lot more struggles if there was no Geddy, if that's what it came down to. I've grown to love Geddy's vocals, but I know a lot of other people, including myself at one time, are turned off by his vox. But Geddy is such a key member to the group. So if it was between no Geddy and Geddy's vocals it should be an easy choice. Now if you're just saying add on a vocalist and keep Geddy, well idk. It's hard to imagine Rush without Geddy singing. I don't think I can. I don't think I want to. Bad thoughts.

Personally, I think Geddy is essential to the band's sound.

I love Geddy Lee's vocals. If Geddy also writes the lyrics, then I can say without him I would never bother thinking twice about Rush. Great music, yes, but a million bands have good music.... it's those distinctive vocals and rather good lyrics that made me take notice.

Having a distinctive voice is of crucial importance, if you ask me. Somebody who is just good at singing isn't any more interesting to me than somebody who is just good at guitar, they need to have more than pure chops to make any decent music. If music was all about chops we wouldn't be rock fans.

Part of the Hater Army I see.. What ever.. Nickleback to some other than Canadians and obviously Northern Staters who are more exposed to the amount of airplay and media hype don't feel the same way.. I find nothing wrong with the band at all..

Again another vocalist that ****** off some because it comes from the "Nu Metal" genre.. But I like David Draiman's (Disturbed) vocals.
For those who like their metal with less growling I find Nu Metal to be closer to my liking.
I get the feeling of death metal but it's too wound up for me.. Lots of energy and extremely hardcore guitar pounding.. Of course your going to have the vocals like screamo and growling go with it..
But once again.. You have a ton of bands doing the same thing and that to me just keeps it at a meh level of enjoyment..

Yup, keep Geddy, add vocalist. Rush have done fine and I am used to his vocals (fav band of mine by far) but I think a different singer would have worked..after all, Peart's lyrics and the overall sound would still be the same. Would have to be someone with a varied range though. A plain vanilla '3 Doors Down' type just wouldn't cut it.

For me it would be Guns 'n' Roses. I always thought the band kicked ass and took names but I never cared much for Axel's voice. I have a couple of their albums but I'd probably have more if I liked their singer's voice.

Between my left and right speakers...
Some guitar player whose name escapes me said that "vocals are filler in between guitar solos"... :)

Seriously on topic...Rush has exemplary musicianship but Lee's stylings never really hooked me in. Tom Petty isn't smooth either but I don't hold that against him in really liking his band.

I know I'm definitely in the minority here but I really don't like Mick Jagger's voice, I know I'd like The Stones a hell of a lot more with a different vocalist. Don't get me wrong I think Mick's a brilliant frontman for his stage presence and swagger and his sleazy voice does fit the music but for some reason it just irritates me. Same with Neil Young, I really cannot abide his voice, like nails down a chalkboard to me, so that puts a stop to me liking any of his music - shame as I really rate him as a guitarist.

Ac/dc being my favourite ever band is a good example of the popularity heavily increasing because of vocalist, no way would Ac/dc have made it big had Bon Scott never got in the picture, Dave Evans was alright on the 2 songs he did with them but he did not have the voice that really suited what Ac/dc was about. Bon had the charisma, the talent and the matching vocal style, everything just was 100% perfect with him in the band. The fact a lot of people prefer the Bon era is also a good example of the vocalist being basis of a bands popularity for the most part.
