Thirty three years after the Rolling Stones originally released ‘Some Girls’ in 1978, Universal Music Group is re-packaging the ten songs in re-mastered Super-Deluxe, Deluxe and Digital editions. The project is set for a November release.

The album features three of the band’s most famous songs in ‘Miss You’ (their last No. 1 hit in the U.S.), ‘Shattered’ and ‘Beast of Burden.’ It also cemented guitarist Ronnie Wood’s place in the band.

Wood, who joined the Stones in 1975, got to show off his slide and pedal steel guitar skills, and also co-wrote the B-side to the ‘Shattered’ single, a song called ‘Everything is Turning to Gold.’

This is the second Rolling Stones album in two years to be reissued. In 2010 ‘Exile on Main Street’ was remastered and received a very positive reception.

“We did ‘Exile,’ we did a lot of different takes, a lot of different cuts that hadn’t come out before,” Mick Jagger told Spinner, “so we’re doing the similar kind of thing with ‘Some Girls.’ I’ve just been doing them because a lot of them weren’t complete, so I had to complete them, and then we’re gonna mix those and put them out for Thanksgiving.”

Rolling Stone reports the upgraded editions will include never before seen photographs and the seven inch single of ‘Beast of Burden,’ including its original banned cover art.

After spending alot of time on here, I'm starting to get the feel of these remastered releases. :heheh:
I found a original pressing with the original faces left un censored..

But really.. After listening to it a few times.. I kinda just play "Miss You" and "Shattered" with "Beast Of Burden" once in awhile.

Kinda wonder how they got permission to replace the original pictures.. Farrah's dead.. Lucille Ball is dead and I think Rachael Welch is still alive but.. Hmmmm..

I still have to get the remastered "Exile On Main Street"...but this is good news. It will be interesting what outtakes and unreleased tracks will make it to the second disc.

What sucks is it will be in CD form and not Vinyl.. If they did a vinyl remastered thaT WOULD BE AWESOME! AND A TREASURE TO OWN.. Opps.. caps.. I got all excited on myself..:blush2:

^I would believe that they will issue it in CD too. I saw the vinyl version and it fetches a pretty penny. Oh and the cover? Welch was the one who made the most fuss about it so she might cause another one. Then again, she might let it slide this time.

My two favorite tracks on there are the country-ish "Far Away Eyes" and the album title track the latter being loaded with tongue in cheek comments about the opposite sex. Richards' "Before They Make Me Run" is great too.

And the preacher kept right on saying
"You always have The Lord by your side!"
And I was so pleased to be informed of this
That I ran twenty red lights in his honor

Another thing to buy this holiday season, but this is a must get for me. I got the original album for Christmas of '78. Maybe history will repeat itself. My three favorite tracks are right in a row: "Some Girls", "Lies" and "Far Away Eyes". The whole album's killer, though.

I will be getting this as soon as it comes out...Why...(& this is only my opinion) because I think 'Some Girls' is the Best album of all-time!! It covers so many genres of music (disco, Pop, Country, Punk, & straight ahead rock). I just feel there's not a bad track on the album.

I'll always remember getting that album when it first came out. I just started hearing about the Stones (I was still just getting into music) & I bought a 45 from the oldies bin of "Satisfaction" & loved it. I went back & grabbed "Jumpin' Jack Flash" & "Brown Sugar" & now I was hooked. Right around that time the King Biscuit Flour Hour broadcasted a show from Memphis. I recorded it & kept listening to it non stop especially "Shattered" & "Respectable". I went out & bought 'Some Girls' right away & it became my favorite album soon after taking over Kiss Rock & Roll Over.

My favorite track is "Respectable" but also love "Shattered" & the title track.
Oops, I forgot to mention "When the Whip Comes Down", "Before They make me Run", "Lies"...etc!!!

I can't wait until next month when they bring their 1978 Fort Worth,TX show to cinemas across the US. Hopefully there will be a DVD release!

Oh Yeah...finally I've got to mention their wild performance on Saturday Night Live during that era!!!

Almost everyone I know prefers the vinyl to the CD version of Exile...I have 3 versions myself.

I can never match Bucky's over the top reaction for this latest deluxe remaster, but it's because of his infectious enthusiasm that I like "Some Girls" more now than I did when it came out.

Slip...I agree the original cover is way better, must have been copywrite issues for them to change it.

Definitely agree on the vinyl perspective. Something about the medium that allows the recordings to breathe from the stylus to the speakers. It has more air and decay around it.

Digitally though if done properly with a higher res platform can be a revelation. Petty's recent blu-ray releases have garnered raves. If Mick and co. could somehow go that route, it might make for great results. Overall, "Some Girls" is a strong release from the first to the last track.

French girls they want cartier...
Italian girls want cars
American girls want everything in the world
...you can possibly imagine

^^If they are going to release a 24-96(DVD) or 24-192(Blu-Ray) version of this album then I would love to see them hire Stephen Wilson to do it. He did a fantastic job with KC's discography with Fripp's blessing and I am looking forward to his Jethro Tull remix coming out later this year.

This is not the same as the numerous "remasters" they've been lobbing out the last decade+, but an actual upgrade to the original source and then making the Digital version.

George, have you checked out any 16-44 or 24-96 Vinyl rips done by audiophiles of old OOP albums? I have to say most of them when properly done absolutely Kill the remastered 16-44 CD's that have been done.
