That's just a handful. Where are you? Sorry dude but this isn't your first "lack of Soul" reference and I have more respect for people who are proactive in getting what they want than doing nothing and lobbing out criticism.

But I am doing something. I've gotten more responses and discussion here than I ever would in one of those other threads.

I don't care what other people like or are huge fans of. That isn't important. I don't care that the list isn't loaded with soul artists. I wouldn't expect that anyway.

If you go back, you'll see my first post in this thread was more or less an observation and nothing else. I'm the type who thinks he owes an explanation or response to someone who takes the time to respond to him. Thus, the long discussion here.

Not a single soul singer on the entire list. Even Otis Redding or Aretha Franklin couldn't scare up the necessary two or three votes to make the top 50. Wow.

I understand, everyone is disapppointed on something, even I am on few positions. But this is classic rock forum, I would not expect funk and soul singers to make the list (or even get few votes - James Brown got no points). What you should expect on this forum is some people can't stand this genre and hate it, including me.

No, your guys. If i didn't know the guys I mentioned, I obviously wouldn't have mentioned them. Yeah, a lot more people voted than me--and they voted for rockers!

i think you made a wrong left turn somewhere--you're lost--in cyberspace, and mentally.

You admit to not even knowing who Wilson Pickett is and then make a comment like this. I'll hand you one thing. You're certainly informed.

you obviously don't proof read your own posts do you? And you brought race into this, not me.

Only to state that rock and roll is more than a bunch of white guys. You've pretty much justified my statement with your continued arrogant and ill-informed responses.

Stop crying at every opportunity and spare me your liberal drama. your PC psycho-babble doesn't intimidate me--not in the slightest.

This is just beautiful. I'm neither a liberal nor do I believe in political correctness. You really just don't get it, do you? It's not about quotas. I've said that over and over. I wouldn't expect a bunch of soul singers on the list. I simply made the observation there wasn't a single one and you have to get defensive over it.

You know what? Who cares that this is a classic rock board? It's not even a remotely valid point. During the classic rock years, rock radio playlists were littered with soul hits. The Billboard Hot 100 had soul all over it. Their album chart was full of soul records. You can't really say that about bluegrass, another genre that someone else mentioned.

Sammy is obviously a reference to Dean...To satisfy you, I had to get my quota in now didn't I?

I was talking about soul music and not merely mentioning people because they're black. The person who mentioned Howlin' Wolf not being on the list has a good point. But I didn't bring him up because he was predominately a blues artist and that wasn't what I was talking about.

Of course but you can also say that about metal, punk, prog or any other offshoot of rock. More specifically, you can say that about just about any rock artist there is. For every Queen lover here, there's probably someone who can't stand them. Yet, Freddie Mercury won the poll.

You really don't make a valid point, at all.

Nor you're making any valid point. All you're saying is "lack of soul" in a forum, where 95% of members are rock/prog/metal heads.

I didn't say lack of soul. I said no soul at all. There's a difference.

I wouldn't expect a dozen or even half as many soul artists on a list like this, especially knowing this forum the way I do.

And you're kidding yourself, if you think that 95% of the people here are metal or prog heads. Rock, I'll give you. But I'd say there's a much bigger overlap between soul and rock than people responding here are willing to see or admit.

You're not here for a long time to submit that statement.

I'm a rare bread that likes music ranging from Doo Wop to Death Metal. I'm very picky about the bands though especially singers. Which 95% of the singers on this list are in my I actually like pile. I only think that out of the top ten maybe 3-4 have the right to be there vocal wise.

I'm not seeing the point of arguing over a list comprised of favorites from multiple members of the forum. I could understand if a group of snooty critics or RS put it together, but this was based on the concensus of forum members, and many of them at that. It's over. It's done. It's made. Let's just show our appreciation for those we love that are on the list and not get into arguments just because someone we enjoy didn't make the cut. :bonk:

There might be some Soul specific music forums out there, but in Every General music forum I've visited, it and pure country are the least busy sub-forums.

I am not taking anything away from the numerous talented soul artists, but the fact is they are mostly forgotten by younger music fans today. Heck you are my age so I understand why you've become attached to them that is your choice.

However Nolo is right, you have not been here for long enough or contributed much of substance to make any determinations about the forum, you admit you visit infrequently and your pattern of posting has been consistent.

You remind me of John Wayne entering a bar, everyone stops what they're doing to see if there's going to be a fight...and I don't think that's by accident either.
