Re: Grateful Dead

Can't go wrong with American Beauty, that is the first Dead album I owned.

As for live, Groovy and DZ are far better experts than myself, but "Live Dead" seems to be a universally respected album.

Thanks LG,I listened to samples of ''Live Dead'' on Amazon, and I think I will make it my 1st purchase. The 1st song Dark Star is an epec tune at 23 minutes long:)

Re: Grateful Dead

I agree with LG...''Live Dead'' is a great album, the shows off the jamin' side of the Grateful Dead, and also shows what the band sounded like in 1969. Also agree that ''American Beauty'' is the perfect studio album to start with -- that and ''Workingman's Dead''. But, people sound known that ''American Beauty'' is on the country rock side of things. (Grateful Dead's sound, changed for year to year, decade to decade)

Also, like Garett's picks...

I`m sure you will be pleased. Reckoning is a 1981 live double album.

And ''Dead Set'' too...another fine double live album from 1981, I believe.

Reckoning - all acoustic set

Dead Set - all electric set

(Both albums recorded live in 1980)

Both great albums!

Now for why I stopped by this thread today...

is to recommend...

THE GRATEFUL DEAD MOVIE

I highly recommend this DVD for people who want to experience a mid 70's Grateful Dead concert.

I never seen the Grateful Dead in the 70's and I love it this film - it's classic.

Filmed in 1974 at the Winterland Arena in San Francisco
