This is a painful thread. Because a fan like me tends to think that things might have been awesome if some musicians hadn't died. But maybe, they would've sucked and destroy almost completely their whole legacy.
Of some posted I really was intrigued by:
¿What if Bon Scott hadn't died? I mean, Back In Black wouldn't have been what it was. And it's AC/DC best album (according to the general apreciation). Maybe the next album could have been even better ...or maybe would have failed miserably.
¿What if John Lennon hadn't been murdered? Some say the Beatles would have reformed. What would have come out of that? It would have been potentially beautiful (considering the solo efforts by all 4 musicians). Or maybe not. They left the bar so high, that with all that expectation they wouln't have been able to live up to that.
¿What if Syd Barrett hadn't lost his mind completely? There definitely would be no Dark Side Of The Moon or The Wall. Syd was a lot crazier so those albums probably wouldn't have gone that way at all.
I have also wondered about Kurt Cobain. I mean, Elvis wasn't in his peak by the time of his death. He wasn't changing the face of music. But Kurt Cobain was a huge influence in his generation and he was definitely changing things (for better or for worse).
I don't know if some of you are familiar with the whole "Madchester" scene. But The Stone Roses have one of the most critically acclaimed albums of all-time (specially by british press. Lots of people consider it overrated, but that's personal taste I guess. Although the whole Stone Roses thing has gone legendary basically due to one album). Well, The Stone Roses had some issues with their record label and they couldn't release a new album in like 5 years, when the whole momentum and impact of their debut had dissapeared. They were the biggest band in England around 1989 ... but by 1994-1995 everyone was into grunge and britpop. So things weren't the same. I have always wondered what would have happened if those label problems didn't happen.
