List some of the bigges music what ifs.

What if Chuck Berry didn't go to prison during his prime?
What if by some miracle the original GNR lineup could co exist say 10 years longer than they did?
What if Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain were still alive? Who do
you think would have the bigger impact on music?

What if Jim Morrison didn't OD?
What if Elvis didn't OD?
What if The Beatles reformed before Lennon was murdered?

...and my main one. What if John Bonham didn't ingest a reputed 40 rounds of vodka and oj?

Some food for thought Greg...I removed your last question...sorry but that will cause a lot of controversy in the long run.

This is a painful thread. Because a fan like me tends to think that things might have been awesome if some musicians hadn't died. But maybe, they would've sucked and destroy almost completely their whole legacy.

Of some posted I really was intrigued by:

¿What if Bon Scott hadn't died? I mean, Back In Black wouldn't have been what it was. And it's AC/DC best album (according to the general apreciation). Maybe the next album could have been even better ...or maybe would have failed miserably.

¿What if John Lennon hadn't been murdered? Some say the Beatles would have reformed. What would have come out of that? It would have been potentially beautiful (considering the solo efforts by all 4 musicians). Or maybe not. They left the bar so high, that with all that expectation they wouln't have been able to live up to that.

¿What if Syd Barrett hadn't lost his mind completely? There definitely would be no Dark Side Of The Moon or The Wall. Syd was a lot crazier so those albums probably wouldn't have gone that way at all.

I have also wondered about Kurt Cobain. I mean, Elvis wasn't in his peak by the time of his death. He wasn't changing the face of music. But Kurt Cobain was a huge influence in his generation and he was definitely changing things (for better or for worse).

I don't know if some of you are familiar with the whole "Madchester" scene. But The Stone Roses have one of the most critically acclaimed albums of all-time (specially by british press. Lots of people consider it overrated, but that's personal taste I guess. Although the whole Stone Roses thing has gone legendary basically due to one album). Well, The Stone Roses had some issues with their record label and they couldn't release a new album in like 5 years, when the whole momentum and impact of their debut had dissapeared. They were the biggest band in England around 1989 ... but by 1994-1995 everyone was into grunge and britpop. So things weren't the same. I have always wondered what would have happened if those label problems didn't happen.

There's no way we can know that. It might even have been better. Most of the music was already written when Bon died. He would have just added his delicious lyrics.

What if Marylin Manson and Rob Zombie would tour together? The entertainmet factor alone is unmatched.
What if Dave Mustaine was never kicked out of Metallica. Would they have made the black album with Mustaine?
What if Zepplin was still around? Would Zepplien's new material still be relevant today?
What if Napster never came about?

My thoughts is that they would have splintered eventually. Plant was forcing his will on the band starting in 1979...refusing to sing "Stairway" as such among other things. Only his childhood friend Bonham would keep him reigned in as long as he could. Would their music still be relevant today? Yes...given the exposure though various outlets I think the four of them with their talents would stay in the spotlight. Their late, great manager Peter Grant knew how to work the media.

What if Mercury was still alive and how would it have helped Queen carry on?
