You mentioned that pop was sugary...now I love the song...but I Want To Hold Your Hand is about as sugary as it gets. C'mon...now if we say it's not than alot of pop artists are off the hook.
Cause there was darker music and more technical music than this during this time and we know that.
Bottom line...Lemmy liked it...not cause it was pop or not...because it was good.

It is a broad term that has even included Black Sabbath at times depending on who is talking. We know Sabbath isn't pop. Or at least I do I'm starting to wonder about you
Bottom line we draw our own conclusions on music because it is a very undefinable medium in many respects that is hard to categorize as much as people try to put it in neat little boxes .
Obviously , your definition of pop differs from Lemmys and mine .Which makes sense considering some of the syrup you gulp down and some of the blood and gore I ingest . You want to incorporate more rock into the pop category to legitimize your pop carving as do lot of others who enjoy that kind of family originated hum drum IMO.
Many of us who are not pop fans are categorizing it differently ..you can say our interpretation is incorrect but then we are aren't listening because it makes sense to us. There are a lot of people I know who see things the same as I do though probably not at this site as it is a much more mainstream view point then I am usually associating with .
I don't know why you bother to keep trying to enforce your views it will never happen . Pop is that girlie Niel Sedka , Partridge Family, MJ , Madonna crap .... not the early rock you try to put in the syrup bottle .I am definitely not the only one that interprets music this way.
