^^I've tried to forget that even exists...and it's crazy when you know the "Screaming" destroys the lead singers vocal chords in a couple of years. I don't mind the odd scream in a song when it's well placed, but I have to agree with you the sooner screamo goes extinct the better off music will be period.:grinthumb

Oh now that's harsh. There is some screamo which I really enjoy, I believe it has its place in music. I mean I couldn't listen to it all the time but there are some days when I feel a real need for the energy of it all. Also you have to go see a live screamo show, it's the greatest cacophony of noise ever. Just people jumping around everywhere, really fun.

Growling does the same LG
However if its done right then it can do very little or no damage to the vocal cords.
But I don't know much about screaming and if they do any training, ect

I agree, it does have its place in music.
Its like saying Picasso's work isn't art because it doesn't look anything like Vincent Van Gogh.

Screamo? Your telling me there is a type of ''music'' out there that involves the singer just screaming, with no lyrics at all?

You are making my point Harkat...all of those Screaming vocalists are going to get nodes on their vocal chords and have to change their style. Unlike a master craftsman like Ian Gillian who has one of the best screams in rock music history, but rarely uses it and can still sing now, these youngsters will have a short career.

And I disagree, screamo is terrible, it is also closely associated with the EMO movement, or at least a huge part of the fan base is made up of that demographic. The Used and Bullet For My Valentine are the only two bands I have that do use screaming, but they seem to have a good balance at least I think so.

A few screams here and there is one thing, but honestly it will fade and be forgotten in a few years, like inhaled pig squeals. Novelty variations that will not stand the test of time. At least I hope not.

Growling...again I have a couple of tasteful albums when it fits, but as a steady diet no thank you, it takes away from the music. I could possible see a live performance with hardcore fans in attendance making a difference, but I can survive without a steady diet of it in my music library.

Screamo and Cookie Monster vocals...neither are my favorites, but they do not supplant my previously stated number one worst genres, not yet anyway.;)

I agree LG. Besides doing nothing but screaming gives the singer no dimension. If you start off at an 11 then just where do you have to go from there? Down obviously however screamers can't scream quietly so they can't very well do that.

^^Exactly Cosmic well put.

When the lead singer of The Used started out, he had a bucket to throw up in during concerts, because he screamed to the point of making himself physically sick.

Then a few years ago he had to have surgery to save his vocal chords, and was told to either change his singing style or lose his voice. I know a little sacrifice for your art/calling is expected but that is a little too much for me to grasp.

Learn how to sing, use the screams to punctuate a song or tastefully and I have no problem with them, like many great rock/metal artists have done in live concerts for decades.
