PALE DIVINE :
Formed 1997, Glen Mills, PA, United States
Members : Greg Diener (guitar, vocals 1997-present), Darin McCloskey (drums 1997-present), Jim Corl (bass 1998-present), Jay Purnell (bass 1997-1998)

1997 Crimson Tears EP
2001 Thunder Perfect Mind
2004 Eternity Revealed
2007 Cemetery Earth

Pale Divine play a style of doom metal firmly rooted in the 70s and 80s, although it is difficult to compare them to anybody.
They are one of my favorite Doom metal bands and have been described as PsycheDOOMelic which I think is a pretty accurate play on words and gives a good idea of their overall sound .

I own all the full length releases and am currently looking for a hard copy of their EP. Any real Doom Metal fan needs to look into this band.

I love the description...psycheDOOMelic. Bang on.

I can hear the original doom influences and also some stoner like the heavier side of Orange Goblin and one of my favs, Witchcraft.

Awesome change of tempos in the track "Time Traveller." I would of liked to hear more of that in thier songs. Plodding sludge with more fast time change signatures I think would really sound good to my ears.

The vocalist sounds like a JD swilling, cigar smoking biker who does have a sence of melody. It works great with the music.

You really have a great ear ,Joe. Both Orange Goblin and Witchcraft ( along w/ others ) have been sited as big influences by the band.

Off all the newer doom I've heard, mostly from you, I do hear stoner influences as well on a lot of the stuff. A "formidable" fusion. Works well IMO.

I agree with Joe that is a great tag to describe a band...:D

Not a huge Doom fan but I'll get around to checking this group out when I get the time.

There is a bit of stoner vibe through out a lot of Doom metal which makes perfect sense to me as stoner is really just 70's heavy psych influenced metal / hard rock( w/ a bit of Sabbath finding it way into the stew ) .Doom being Sabbath, Pentagram etc. influenced metal, it just makes sense to me that other heavy 70's band influences would find their way into the mix. The biggest difference between the two IMO is Doom is more metal influenced while stoner leans a bit more toward the psych end of the spectrum.

I would look into the Cemetery Earth CD Joe ...based on your comment regarding "Time Traveller."

^^^Ya, it makes since to me too also. Both based on the early 70's heavy music so it makes since that doom and stoner are closely related sub-genres. At times I think grunge is also in the stew which again makes since to me as I hear must grunge influenced by early 70's heavy music; proto-metal, heavy psych, acid rock, proto-punk and even some blues rock.

Downloading Cemetery Earth right now. I'll let you know what I hear.:grinthumb

Heres the cover of 2012s Painted Windows Black which is the only one missing from their discography in my O.P. in this thread. It has a heavy Saint Vitus vibe through out if I remember correctly though it has been awhile since my last spin . I need to dig it out and give a good listening again soon.

PALE DIVINE are due for a new release this year and although little detail has been leaked at this point I look forward to the new album.
